Nii, good stuff. The shirt collar in the three-piece shot seems to be letting you down, though.

Pink I have no problem with. I just feel like the large-scale check has been fighting me. If nothing else, it's become a very infrequent choice.

The problem is that it looks like a shirt you can play games on. :)

I think you look great in your greys and blues, with lots of texture—simple and tasteful. The shirt doesn't fit in that picture (anymore?).

Good stuff, nii.

Digging the cloth, Gaz. Source?

So much good stuff in this thread.
-Love that wool mohair cloth in Manton's suit.
-Nii, like most of that a lot, with the notable exception of that camel jacketed one
-Gaz, love that nailhead, great lapels, nice simple combination.

Thanks. The cloth is a winter weight birdseye, as Manton pointed out. The difference is that birdseye is round, while nailhead is square in its pattern.

The suit is a Liverano. Not sure who made the fabric but I suspect it's Drapers

cg@782: I don’t like that type of tie but if you are going to wear it, it needs a solid shirt. The pattern you have is too small/close. A pattern large enough I fear would be clownish. Hard toe to pair. As to the shoes, the problem is not that they are too light, it’s that they are too red. Putting on my mmkn hat here, the juxtaposition of cool above and warm below is too jarring. Red shoes need some pinks or some earth tones in the rest of the outfit. Medium brown would be fine rather than whatever that is.

nii@787: lots of good stuff here.

#1 is very edmorelly, I mean that in a good way, though he would of course wear a solid navy tie with that, but overall it’s very Italian. I would wear that shirt-tie combo in a heartbeat, though not with a sportcoat, but it looks good the way you did it.

#2: excellent, nothing else to say.

#3: great but for the square. The problems with small dot squares have been covered at length so I won’t repeat them; that color square with the rest is quite good, though

#4: nothing objectionable here, it just doesn’t move me

#5: least successful so far, I dislike the tie and really dislike the square

#6: dot tie + dot square = big no. Color of the jacket is too mustardy for me.

#7, nice and GREAT square.

#8: fine, not great

Gaz@792: Well, I would change this a bit. I do like a knit tie with a suit occasionally but with a hard, clear cut worsted like that, the informality of the tie is jarring. I think the tone of tie and suit are also too close. Please stuff the square down a little. Kthx

southnarc, OK, you are new so please take this as it is intended.

There is nothing tasteful here. The suit is a shiney tone-on-tone stripe, those always have a flashy, miami beach gangster vibe. Ditto the jacquard white shirt. Tie is shiney-awful and the square is primped and ridculous.

Those colors together are all quite good, your problem is that every texture is tacky. "wet" shiney textures should be used very sparingly if at all. You are wet from head to toe.

Thanks Manton I appreciate the candor and grace. I'm trying to learn and I think I do color well but texture still eludes me for some reason. Looking at it in totality I really see the "wet" effect you describe. Funny that I chased gangsters for 21 years and now I dress like them!

Thank you sir!:)

Manton, what size are those lapels? I'm about your height but not nearly as svelte as you. Just trying to gauge what size lapels to get next..........

thanks for the feedback Moo, Manton, SB, CG, NOBD et al (sorry if i forgot someone).

the mustardy camel jacket is actually a suit :paranoia: - one of my first forays into MTM. the swatch and final product were so disparate but i hanged on to it for a while. it is now being enjoyed by another owner.

Manton - please educate me on the dotted p/s hate. i had no knowledge of this.

Thanks Manton.
I very intentionally kept the tie v shirt pattern 2:1 but yeah, it's busy.
The shoes are more subdued oxblood than the pic... But you make a good point top v bottom.

Thanks!
