^^^ The Austrian and German rivalry is not small and well known. It is, like many rivalries, more heartfelt by the party which has more often come out on the short end of the stick. People from the U.S. rarely see a rivalry with Canada, but if you don't believe one exists--ask a Canadian.

This is all very true ^^^ sometimes it's only a real "local" sort of thing that won't show up on paper.

This.
The guy is nutty. Trying to defend him would be a pretty useless exercise. He stayed calm a few times for Man City and Inter, but even Mourinho said he was the dumbest player he's ever coached. He may look composed right now but he'll lose it. Maybe not in this tournament but it will happen.
He looks like a world class tosser right there. Dude needs a SF membership, and quick.
A player like that can inspire the fans to make more noise by winding up opposition players, his brilliance as a player can be a key difference between the two teams when they are desperate for a goal, and he can entertain the players and help them bond.

A player like that has his uses IMO, but then I also think the most inspired thing Brian Clough ever did was to take his players out drinking the night before a cup final.

I don't understand why people keep ragging on Balotelli so much. Sure he's sort of nuts but he's almost singlehandedly made a historically anemic offense look dangerous and he constantly stretches the defense with his runs. I also find it ironic that so much time is spent trashing Balotelli while his fellow forward, Antonio Cassano is undoubtedly more crazy than he is.

He (Balotelli) set off a firework in his house. What a beauty!

If you look at what fun he's had, that's one of his most minor offenses

I am no Balotelli fan, but it is much easier to rip on him than actually think about things. Balotell is no Joey Barton - hell, he isn't even John Terry. He is young, somewhat stupid, rich and talented. Time will tell if he becomes a Wayne Rooney, who worked to control his temper and temperment, or any of the lesser known players--those that become more widely known for their antics than their skills. His goal against Ireland was a thing of beauty, but he was less than useless against Croatia and was quite poor yesterday. I don't believe he is ready for the challenge of Germany, but time will tell.

What the hell kind of a clause is that? "Oh hey, thanks for paying the release fee, but I'm out"

Not going to happen and I can't really see him working out in the Barça system anyway

sorry for going off topic, but i'm curious--doesn't Austria have a cabbage-eating tradition also?  Germans have their sauerkraut and Hungarians have their cabbage rolls and I would guess Vienna is in between the 2 historically and culturally and is also a cabbage country?  No?

let's not start a discussion about german cuisine. oh, i forgot it doesn't exist...

we have inherited some dishes from the former crownlands, which are absolutely delicious.

He is a bloody good player but he is all over the place depending on his footballistic mood of the moment..

He thinks he is actually better than he is...

That's his problem..

note a lot of posts have been censored and deleted. not a love feast, imo.

Your "love feast" is onesided, that's my point. Do you really believe that Germans obsess about an upcoming fight against Austria like they would over games against the Netherlands or England?!
The thorn in Germany's side has yet to be found. Sorry to shatter your loathsome dreams of a rivalry on equal footing, but Germany is just a country that helps Austria process their well-kept complexes.

I for one like to see an Austrian team winning.
