The mere fact that Uruguay are still as high as they are (despite admittedly strong performances) proves this ^^^.

And England always being there until recently.

France extremely disappointing....

England is using hodgson favorite tactic of scoring from set pieces only..worked for him in Europa couple of years ago so...

Hope second game is more entertaining.

France wll get better wth M'Vla.

Don't forget 2 years ago the team was in disarray...

France is a good team but not a great team and they lack confidence...

The average age is 27 and most of them wll be there in 2014.

Debuchyand Cabaye were very good , Benzema,Nasri and Ribery were good ...

The rest did ther jobs..

England is playing very negatively...

Really, with all the reserved play thus far in the tournament, I think the "big boys" have yet to declare who they are.

Even though France is out of the way, I'm still a little anxious about Sweden and the Ukraine (the latter more so..). Hopefully, this upcoming match results in a draw too.

I was very impressed with Mathieu Debuchy. Bar the one incident where he dawdled on the ball and was robbed by AOC, he didn't put a foot wrong. Also had a lot of joy attacking down the left. Impressive from a relatively unheralded player.

Semi-racist probe: (?)

Anyone else notice throughout the anthems in the opening round that it is most frequently the "immigrants" or the "others" that don't sing their nations' anthems? ie - Özil, Khedira, Boetang not singing while the rest of the Germans do. Nani during the Portugal one. Just now, the black player for Sweden. Van der Weil for Holland, Balotelli for Italy, Benzema and Evra didn't for France while the rest of the team were singing...? Maybe I'm just hyper sensitive to this.

To be honest though, in international games, it bothers me when Donovan doesn't sing for the USA. Never does. Messi usually doesn't. Sergio Ramos only ever stares up into the sky - but many of the Barcelona players are very mute during the Spanish anthem (little surprise there).

I'd just think you're pulling on the shirt, and you're playing as a team, and that should be enough.

Would be funny if Sweden and Ukraine went through...

Sweden vs. Ukraine has started at quite a hectic pace. I rather like it.

I've noticed this as well. It's not remotely a racist thing, but a nationalism thing. But if players like Ozil, for example, don't feel like Germans, you have to wonder (apart from pragmatic reasons) why they would choose to play for the country of their birth rather than the country of their blood (Turkey, in his case). Or maybe they're just bad singers :smarmy:

There were a lot of whites not singing as well. After all of the talk about the fake Poles, I expected it to be rampant with them but they all were singing and looked to actually know the words, a few players seemed to be muttering "wah wah"
