It is already past five and I have achieved nothing all day because my brand new copy of Microsoft word 2010 on my brand new windows 7 laptop won't work and I have spent most of the day time wasting whilst I try and fix it.

I want to stop working and have a beer with friends leaving their offices, but I haven't actually done any damn work today so I either work into the night or achieve nothing today.

Just finding out that our organization will not be giving out raises for the 2nd consecutive year. Time to start looking in a rough economy. . .

Glad to hear your mom is doing well.

As for the other...you'll find her. The one you're meant to be with.

I ordered a new showerhead a little while ago. got it in the mail today with a note that they had ran out of stock so they "Upgraded" my order at no additional charge.

they upgraded me to this ugly *************:

I'm glad your mom is better, and you will be too, eventually.

^^^^ This ... Today, the sore throat wasn't as bad but now the nose is a bit runny so I took a cold tablet I found in my desk drawer. Now I'm all Zombie Thomas. Now it's lunchtime and I can't find a place that serves brains.

If it's really annoying you and you're using either Chrome or Firefox with the Greasemonkey extension, you can easily hide the sidebar with a simple script. I'm sure it could be improved, but the one at the link below works great for me.

I'm all for blocking annoying ads but I feel that this is a different scenario.

I visit SF almost daily. The community has helped me out on multiple occassions. I can't imagine the costs associated with running a high traffic forum. If placing affiliate links (especially if they're on a click basis) helps cover those costs and allows the community to continue, I don't mind at all.

That being said, the right column is too much. Especially the image linking to the front page. The affiliate links that are a good enough spot imo.

I find it amusing that someone signed up to the forum to post a script to help people (although it could be a trap...check the code before you run it)

Still...the right column lists sponsors so technically I don't think SF is getting any money for how may times the ad is viewed or clicked. If I have to hide it on my netbook to make it fit the small screen...they aren't getting hurt.
