Some of you might remember that I had a pair of Asquith stolen. I had just gotten them back from a recraft. I was able to get the insurance money which I used towards a Top Drawer in the same model. I am extremely happy with how they came out.

A little late, but wow cwh, those look

I'm exited to hear how they wear compared to EG's standard line. I've heard rumors that TDs are easier to brake in which I find somehow hard to believe. But who knows, I might have to find out for myself

Hello everyone,

My fiancee is planning to get me a pair of Oxford shoes for our wedding.

We have narrowed it down to John Lobb, Gaziano Girling and Edward Green

The specific models are

JL: Becketts, City II, Garnier
Gaziano: Cooper, Holden
Edward Green: Chelsea

Out of these choices, the Becketts are our favourites, but ultimately it will come down to fit and comfort.
I am fairly new to these brands, can someone that has worn one or more of these shoes let me know their thoughts?

Are there other EG models that have a similar shape/style to the shoes I've selected?

For the models we have chosen, are they all suitable to wear for a wedding (as the groom)?

I have flat feet with almost no arch, does anyone know if the Chelsea will pose a problem for my feet?

I will get a much much better idea once I get to see these in person and try them on, but I wanted to know a bit more about them before making a decision on purchase.

Thanks a lot for reading

The chelsea is available in different lasts. The lasts are typically for this shoe are the 202 or 82. The 202 being a more classic shape and the 82 generally considered to be more elegant. The chelsea by design is a more conservative shoe so it really depends on the look you are after. I like the JL becketts, stylistically it is far different from the chelsea. All are great choices it really comes down to which aesthetic you prefer. All are at the top of the rtw food chain if you will. I would recommend going to leffot in NYC if possible as they carry all three options. Remember you will have these a life time with proper care so fit will be essential. Good Luck

Toss a coin. This one has two winning sides. :) I have a pair of Chelsea's on the 82 that I love. I do have medium to high arches but I can't imagine these wouldn't fit well.

The Beckett's are very nice as well.

The Lobbs have eye popping style... and the EG have a more subdued and classic flavor.

JL: Becketts would be my choice out of the above options, such a beautiful shoe!

Thanks for pointing that out bespoken pa. I will check the Chelsea in both lasts and see which fits better on me.

I would have loved to go to leffot to see and compare all 3, however I will be in Hong Kong instead and there and Tassels carries Edward Green, there is a John Lobb boutique but doesn't look like there is a stockist for G&G.

If either of these shoes are well taken care of, can they really last for decades?

Those look very nice on you beez. Agree with you that the EG's are more understated whereas the Lobbs are more eye catching.

Is there a large difference in appearance between the 202 and 82 lasts? The EG website only has a photo of the Chelsea in 82 last.

Here are a couple ankle boots that I have picked up through Leffot. The Halifax are made on the new Delapre leather - it is extremely soft and supple. It takes Saphir Reno and wax very well - pics are after a couple wears and first shine.

The model with the buckle I love it ... the color is very nice.

peak08, you can find about the the standard RTW black cap toes from the cap toe thread, link on on my signature. It will also has the comparison of the 82 and 202 last.

with the choices you provided, there is a massive difference in price between certain models, I would recommend you first decide on a style first, and price range.

The fit of EG 82 last, G&G lasts and JL 7000 are pretty similar, when you take into consideration the JL is half a size bigger in fit, so if you are a UK 8E in JL, should be UK 8.5E in EG and G&G.

As for shoes lasting decades, I can tell you a pair of C&J, AS can last decades if taken cared of well, even Loake, so please don't use that as a reason. You are picking them for brand name and looks, and if you have a medium width feet, all of the shoes you listed should fit fine.

I doubt that the identical fit of G&G and EG 82 holds, I can have UK9E in EG 82 but absolutely UK9F in G&G MH71

While there are similarities, I likewise need to go up in width to a G&G 9F in most of their lasts, as compared with UK9E in EG 82 and 888.

Sizing will be tricky. I wear the same size on all my EG and G&G; half size up difference will all my JL. Wurger is my twin. :)
