Need Opinions. Blue Chinos + Black Cherry GT's = SF Approved? [PICS INSIDE]

I went out with my girlfriend wearing a pair of navy blue chinos that were slightly faded, black cherry gentleman travelers, grey ocbd, and a black sweater. When we gout out of the car and was walking in the dim lighted street, she complemented on what I wore for the night and thought it looked really nice.

But as soon as we stepped out into brighter lighting, she said she takes back what she said because didn't like the navy blue chinos and thought they they didn't match with the black cherry GT's and with my black sweater (she never liked the look of navy blue chinos). We had a little debate and I thought the blue chinos looked okay with the GT's even though they were just a little bit faded.

So what do my fellow SFers here think? Opinions would be greatly appreciated.
(I had to pump up the brightness / contrast a bit on the photos so they would show the color more properly)

well, if you ask me, the whole outfit is bad.

The shoes and pant color are fine, but the pants fit awkwardly in that they are tighter around the calf/lower leg but quite baggy around the thighs and waist.

The color of the shirt is pretty awful and looks strange untucked. That said, if I were to wear that, the look is much better without the sweater.

The black sweater when added to a gray shirt, blue pants, and brownish/reddish shoes is a mess.

There is definitely room for improvement but at least you're trying.

Thanks for your honest opinion quad.

- I do think the black sweater kind of makes it look weird with all the different colors. What do you think would be a better choice to wear on the outer layer instead of the black sweater?
- I truely thought the pants were fitting okay. They're the urban slim broken in chinos from J Crew. They fit me perfectly at the waist, not sure what else I could do about that.
- What would be a better color ocbd to match with the outfit, and would you have worn it tucked in? (I'm a bit heavy around the mid section)

The problem with the fit of the pants is in the upper legs, probably due to a large rear and maybe large thighs or hips (hands out of the pockets). Overall too much focus below the waist. The outfit would have been much better with a shirt like this.

The color of the chinos and GTs works well, but as others have said, the fit of the chinos is suspect. Here's a pic of me wearing the same combo on the lower half in RL Rubgy chinos. Tapered chinos such as yours should fit snugger on your thighs.

Why would you take a fit picture with your hands in your pockets?

Sorry, I was originally asking for opinion regarding the color matching of the blue pants working with the black cherry gt's, but asked about the fitment afterwards.

Thanks everyone for your input. I do agree that I should be tucking in my shirt, I'll have to transition myself into doing that as a habit. With the pant fitment, I think maybe the length of the pants is too long, making the extra fabric bunch up instead of hanging freely at the shoe. Or maybe I just need to lose weight or buy better fitting pants.

When I see navy chinos I think of the outfit the mechanical and body techs wear at the Cadillac dealership I go to for service. The gray shirt is even more evocative of that look, because they wear gray shirts with their names embroidered on them...All you need is a Snap On or Matco hat and you'll complete the look.

The color of the trousers is not the problem. As NYCP showed; his fit is kickass.

OP, the pants color with the shoes is not your problem.

Fit is not great. You can get the pants adjusted by a tailor for a few bucks and make them look much cleaner.

The shirt/sweater is killing you. There are many shirts that can work. And please, tuck in the shirt, looking sloppy is not going to make you look thinner.
