it's because a fashion house has a lot more costs than the price of materials. ****.

It's not really the production costs/margins that are the main point.

The point is that people buy the Givenchy shirt because it's recognisable as #fashions. It's not interesting design, it's not extremely good quality, it doesn't look better than any other screenprinted black tshirt

At best it's a fashion insiders' fist bump, or perhaps an ironic inside joke. At worst it represents the least tasteful things about the industry.

Great buys! Wire always sells the best sh*t lol. I have that AW05 Y's in a crew neck iteration. It's light weight, great colour and unique cuff and ' waist band ' finish. Quite short and brilliant. Yoox is selling one atm for some crazy price....

So you've struck a deal with jamesd then :)

I have seen numerous people rocking that sweatshirt and it usually looks like they tried to force it into an outfit that it totally did not go with - just so they could be seen to be wearing it. That photo however I thought worked (I am not a fan of the sweatshirt, but hey, if he wants to rock it, power to him). Yet I do think it is quite a jarring juxtaposition between what is essentially the biggest 'hype' item of the season against a Yohji garment, who essentially designs in such a way to create pieces that are the very antithesis of the hype item. The sweatshirt has taken on a meaning of its own, in a way that very few garments in menswear do (in terms of the fashion system at large - microcosms always have hype e.g. MIJ Dior Homme or whatever), although it is something you see all the time in womenswear and as menswear grows no doubt it will follow. As much as I do wonder whether he will still be rocking Yohji in a few years time (although I do sincerely hope he will, because it looks dope on him), it does strike an odd contrast. The same reaction would no doubt meet a woman in a Yohji dress who happens to be wearing the 'it' shoes of the season - there is an inescapable link to the system of fashion at large, of creating these hyped up pieces laden with meaning (which after a season lose all that meaning and become clichéd), which Yohji rebels against in his work. Somehow it does not compute in my mind that the two could exist next to each other in any real way - a trend piece next to a Yohji piece...it just seems weird. But at the same time, I think if someone likes something and it makes them happy, wear the sh*t out of it.

I really don't understand why the Shui fits should be discredited simply because the pants etc. are made by "Yohji Yamamoto". Who gives a ****? This is simply an issue of whether one believes in "brand synergy" but taken to an absurd extreme. If the clothes had been Rick Owens (or had he made them himself!) would it have made the slightest aesthetical difference? My opinion is no, it wouldn't and that the dislike that those photos have recieved is in fact a form of elitism or rather disdain in regards to the masses who don't "get" X and therefore have failed to "abide" by the rules of what is accepted and proper.

big and aggressive graphics have been featured in yohji's work every now and then, pin ups, manga, monsters, skeletons...even his own face. And also played against YY ethos, well that kind of battle it's also in his dna. I can't see anything wrong besides I dislike givenchy and its sorroundings

PS: the quality was indeed better than Givenchy though

Yohji/Yohji/Yohji fit, not a Givenchy in sight ( though what other people wear is their business as long as they're comfortable with them )

YYPH SS11 Look 24 Shirt Vest ( HO-Y04-807 ) Same as Ivwri posted, here's another interpretation. 100% cotton, sz 3. Black. Nice shirting fabric on body, almost bluish black jersey cotton buttonless sleeves. Shirt styled like a waistcoat, 13B closure ( bottom 2 are redundant perhaps ). Asymmetrical wide collar with additional 2 buttons on the right for a tighter, fold-over 3D collar look. Waistcoat style left chest and waist pockets. Adjustable waist using twin back straps and a metal buckle. Hybrid in design and hybrid in fabric, quite superb.

YYPH SS11 Look 24 Drawstring Pants ( HO-P36-016 ) 100% cotton, coarse, dry hand fabric, deliberately vintage feeling. Sz 3, super wide waist, drawstring with belt loops, no button closure ( PJ style ), zip fly. Tightening the waist creates muti-pleated look, 2 side pockets, 2 huge back semi-round pockets with horn button closure. Wide legs, wide hems.

YYPH AW11 Monkey Boots ( HP-E05-754 ) Sz 2, black nubuck leather, 15 eyelet lace closure with side zips.

Saw it the other day when Ivwri's fit was quoted, I'll have to search for his original post because I think I've missed it.
