Saw this thread when I first joined, and it seemed a pity no one seems to post in it at the moment, and I am having to go through a lot of my old pictures right now for some uni work so I thought I might post a few of the better ones. I am not a particularly good photographer (although I held onto delusions that I was for quite a while) but I have been fortunate enough to be in some pretty cool places and see some pretty cool animals, and since they all just sit on my hard drive and no one ever sees them I thought I might upload a few. These are from Tanzani, Peru, and the penguins are from Chile.

youngscientist,

Great photos but they look like you could add some captions and turn them into memes.

The parrot one could be an "O RLY":

Those pics are outstanding. Mind if I ask...what camera do you use?

And where were they taken? In the wild or at the zoo?

The animal pictures in Wild animal park, San Diego. Humming bird in the back yard, and landscape at newport beach.I have a nikon D300 with assortment of lenses, a sigma SD14,Sigma DP1 and Sony DSC R1.I use D300 for serious work primarily and Sigma DP1 is my everyday carry camera(usually stays in my car) and gives amazingly sharp results...and some more pics!

What kind of lens a you using to get in that close, or are you just cropping or close to the animals? On my e-3 I can get up to 560mm, but it never seems to get close enough.

I use a 300mm AFS F2.8 Nikkor(sometimes add a 1.7X teleconverter, but usually dont need to add it for zoo shots). Its an amazingly sharp lens with beautiful contrast and sharpness.
