Not sure No Purchase Club idea is any good for me. Tried no sartorial purchases for August and ended up spending $1500 on other random stuff including an unplanned weekend away. My usual monthly random spending is only about $800!!!!!!!

To recap; you have now entered officially into an agreement with yourself (and in in front of the world), that you will spend not one cent on any clothing-related items for this month of SEPTEMBER 2011. This agreemant is valid until 11:59:59 pm September 30, 2011.

Welcome now, to the NO PURCHASE CLUB for SEPTEMBER 2011.
I wish each and every one of you strength and the discipline to take back yor life, saving those precious dollars and making due with what you already have.
With perserverance, you'll do it!
Please remember to use this thread if you are feeling weak. Let us use this fellowship to help one another stay strong and not spend.
If you fall down and spend, you must report it here. You will still continue the challenge but will suffer some form of punishment.

If you are feeling desperately weak, use this thread and confess the temptation and we'll try to talk you down.
There are many vetrans here who have taken the challenge before so we are in good company.
You can do this. Good luck everyone.

Suggestions For Newcomers:
Do not think you are 'missing out' by not spending. There will be an ocean of clothes, shoes and accessories available later.
Leave the wallet/credit cards at home on your outings.
Carry only $20-$40 cash on you for emergencies (and don't look for emergencies).
Stay away from any/all mens clothing stores altogether.
Stay away from all online sellers websites, keeping temptations completely out of sight.
Re-discover what you already have. Be creative with your existing clothes.
Use this time to sew buttons, iron or mend garments, polish shoes or attend to any other neglected items.
ALTERATIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED during this challenge UNLESS it is an Emergency and is within your allowance.

Start a Piggy Bank and use it.

Suggestion: If you see a pair of shoes you want, toss that exact amount of money into your Piggy Bank.
Save a photo of those shoes and make that a new wallpaper on your PC. After a month, see if those shoes still tempt you or not.
Please remember to report truthfully, any and all spending. This will help me create a scorecard later.

To those of you who are not yet members of Styleforum, you are invited to join our community! Sign-up takes only a few minutes.
If you are playing the home game, best of luck to you.
I wish you all strength.....and now, let's see how we do. Good luck everyone. :slayer:

So far I have already resisted:

Drakes shantung ties that I wanted to buy
Drakes pocket squares I wanted to buy
Linen SC I wanted to buy

I took your suggestion and bookmarked them, to come back later in a month if I still feel the need/desire...In all three cases, my main reason against was having signed up for the no purchase club...trying to stay strong.

As we all suffer the same sickness, the key is to get your attention onto other matters. Taking the time to perform maintenance to our clothes (buttons, sewing, polishing, etc) can be rather therapeutic. Having your hands on every inch of your clothing, at least in my case, really enhances my appreciation for the clothes I own. Or to dress down for this period, then re-discover what you already own. Sometimes it is good to just take a break from things or use the time to research, say, the history of articles of clothing, etc. I am doing repairs and maintenance on my S.O.'s clothing and accessories currently and she just loves it.

Posting in WAYWRN has helped too, although sometimes ppl suggest things to buy there...but I am starting a list that I'll keep for a while and funk about before acting on...stuff will always be around to buy, no reason to rush into something!

Also helps to consider some ill-fated past impulse purchases to realize these things don't always turn out well....

Got a navy grenadine Drake's tie this past weekend as a gift, so thankfully I'm still in the clear. I'm hoping that will hold me over for ties for the month (one of my biggest issues). And I just set up a visit with Joe Hemrajani on his next US visit, but thankfully that's not until October. Off to a good start.

Just missed out on an extra long silver grenadine from Drakes, saving me the misfortune of disgracing myself this early in the month!

Checked the mail this morning...received the Fall 2011 Brooks Brothers catalog. Read through it on the train, and despite the beautiful Peal & Co tweed boots, I had no urge to buy them.

I refinished 2 pair of shoes today. Photos later? or would that be inappropriate for this thread?

I got that as well, didn't even crack it. Mostly because then I'd probably buy something.
