After wearing my Russet Bakers belt for a week now (just a few hrs/day), I applied a coat of Sedgewick's leather conditioner (thanks Charlie & Dawn!) and let it sit in the sun for a few hours over the course of the week. It was only after I compared it to a virgin piece of leather that Charlie included with my shipment that it became apparent just how much it evolved in a short period of time. I am loving this belt!

The burgundy west end gets a bit more wear as I wear it during the workday. What attracted me to Equus' shade of burgundy is that it's a subtle burgundy, sitting firmly in between a dark brown and traditional burgundy (or what many shoe manufacturers call "cordovan"). I have several pair of burgundy shell and Alden Color #8 shell shoes and it obviously pairs well with them (it's not identical, which I prefer). Where it becomes even more versatile is that it also pairs just as well with Alden's cigar shell cordovan which is a dark brown. I'm not one that requires a perfect match between belt & footwear as long as the colors fall in the same family.

I'll have to snap a picture along side my shell footwear as it really works well with a variety of colors in the brown family.

I second the burgundy. I bought black, dark brown, and burgundy. The black and dark brown are mostly for dress, and while they are both great, the burgundy west end is the belt that really says "wow!". I went with the stainless steel buckle for the burgundy, as shown on the website, and it is a perfect combination. A great shade for any burgundy/cordovan shoe color, as Patrick says..

Really interesting photo of the Russet - it does develop character very quickly and ages very well. I had a 6 month old belt come back for a buckle swap a while ago and it was lovely, totally different than a new piece of Russet and far more character because it writes its own story, if that makes sense.

Also pleased to here some love for the Burgundy - we sell far more Aus Nut which is a very close cousin, but I always think the Burgundy has a little more depth and richness to it

As promised the first suede belt is live on the website

We plan to get a couple more suede colours if possible and we will have lots more styles with the different buckles, but thought I'd get this on the website for people as quickly as I could. If you'd like a different buckle when you order just let me know, its not a problem to use any of the buckles

Per yesterday's post, here's a quick shot of the West End Bridle in burgundy with brass buckle. The burgundy color is what drew me in and its versatility is astounding. It pairs well with traditional burgundy footwear as well as the darker color 8 found in Alden's shell offerings. I'd really hoped that the subtle nature of Equus' burgundy would allow it to work with dark brown and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it does.

I went a bit wider than a traditional dress belt at 1 3/8" and it allows me to bring just one belt for business travel. I can pair it with a sport coat and wool trousers for the work day and with chinos or denim for casual evenings.

L - R:

Allen Edmonds calf Tresana in "Cabernet Brown" (it's a real dark brown with hints of red/burgundy in the sun)

Alden shell Cap Toe boot in color #8

AE shell Macneil in burgundy

Alden shell PTB in cigar

As I sit here, I'm already considering my next Equus makeup. Perhaps something in the 1 1/4" size, Australian Nut with a polished buckle.

Navy belt to match my navy shoes.

Ordered a navy and a hazel, getting ready for a year back in business school. Think I can get away with  #8 shoes and a dark Havana? Or should I look into Aus Nut/Burgundy

Any Father's Day promotion?

The photos a couple of posts up are probably a good guideline for the #8 . I think Burgundy would be your best match, it has enough red to provide a good match to the darker areas - Dark Havanna is lovely, but is definitely a brown, it doesnt have any red at all so to me doesnt match the character very well, though certainly you could wear the two together without a problem if you wanted. Very happy to send samples as ever!

There wasn't, but why not! The coupon fd12% will get you 12% of your shopping cart until close of play on Monday. I would say though that Fathers Day presents ordered now will be late - remember we have a waiting list of a calendar month or so, plus shipping, we make everything to order. We can happily make up owners certificates so you have somthing for the day itself though..

Looking forward to this!

Is there any store in London that stocks Equus products, Charlie?
