I will be in town next Saturday for a concert at the Lincoln theater (U St. NW). Since this is in a residential area, I'm thinking cabs will not be readily available. Metro seems to be a good option from the 1 hotel I am considering (Sofitel Lafayette Square) but not from the Ritz in Georgetown, where I would prefer to stay. So, how should I work the cab thing after the concert? Or should I expect plenty coming by?

I haven't called to confirm, but I don't know if the Ritz has a courtesy car available or not.

I don't currently live in DC, but I grew up there. I think you should be able to get a cab after the show. If you have difficulty, however, you can always take the Metro to Foggy Bottom (transfer at Metro Center) and easily catch a cab from there into Georgetown.

There will be cabs aplenty. Pick it up on the south side of U Street for extra credit--that makes it inarguably one zone, instead of two, thus saving you about a dollar.

Should be about ten bucks each way, if you're with a companion. You can certainly take metro either way, but a cab is less trouble to/from either hotel, since U Street is on the green line. I mean, if you're already at the Ritz. . . If you'd like to try a DC tradition (one of the few true local institutions, on the level of the Redskins and political infighting), Ben's Chili Bowl a few doors down from the Lincoln Theatre is where we get our chili dogs. Perhaps not an ideal choice if you're in your tails, but if hunger strikes as you leave the concert, Ben's will do it up right for you. EDIT: Actually, I guess it would be two zones from the Ritz anyway, since that's over the bridge. But arguably three if you catch the cab on the north side of U Street.
