Help wanted to create a list of brands that have lost all their luring effects and prestige.

This list is made of brands that once were considered to be of good taste but somehow have gotten rotten. Maybe because they were a family owned company that was sold to groups of investors...
Brands that have lost all their appeal, their value, and have betrayed their origins to maximize profit and financial gains . Old traditional companies that have been perverted.

So any ideas?

pretty much all of the italian brands. lv, gucci, prada, ferragamo, etc.

I'd say the only luxury brand that maintains its standard of quality is perhaps hermes.

I recently read the phase "pulled a Burberry" in an article about another (non-clothing) brand that went downmarket through no fault of their own.

so are LV products of low quality? I have no clue about LV...

are they low quality? not necessarily, but they've gotten to be a brand whore brand as opposed to a quality leather goods manufacturer. Also, they plaster their logo all over everything and use a lot of canvas.

Shows how much you know of the brand. OP how many threads are you going to start today?

please, enlighten us then. Yes, a small portion of their products are still handcrafted in france. Their most popular stuff is plastered with their logo.

In case you haven't noticed, MC is anti-brand. The only respectable "brand" here is going bespoke. :)

In all seriousness, yes, a lot of brands have lost some prestige, but to most people Gucci is still prestigious, etc. A good rule of thumb is if the product is still made in its home country like France or Italy exclusively (or Japan for denim) then some modicum of decency is remaining.

If you're goal is to appear richer than the average person with an LV bag, try Hermes, Dior, and Brioni to be a step up.

I'm not really sure why your post caused some offense. You gave room to the potential for continued quality (they still make good leather products, let's be serious), but pointed out that they've gone brand whore. Who would argue against that? If you want to check out some nice LV, the Taiga leather is great. I also like their Utah leather line. Neither has any more logo nonsense than an LV embossed somewhere barely visible.

Ferragamo still makes very nice quality ties. Gucci too.

Yeah I'm not sure either. They still make some very nice stuff, and I actually love their trunks, but the lv monogram wallets and bags are de rigueur for the early 20s manhattanite...of any financial standing, whether they can afford it or not.

Oh, don't get me wrong, these brands still make some VERY nice stuff...but the diffusion lines and such are exactly that, a diffusion from their original quality.

Almost no brand with a history can say that they adhere to their original quality. Every brand I can think of has delved to attract lower market buyers. Take for example the Tiffany keychain, they sell them by the truckload and has become a significant profit center. Its a natural progression for a high cache brand to cash in a bit. Cant really fault them but some go waaaay too far. I wouldnt say Ferra and Gucci have done that, although GG logo stuff got pretty bad there for a while.

Burberry have pretty much destroyed their brand name because of this behavior. Its a fine line. You're in trouble if you lose exclusivity, for example:
