This thread seems like something you'd find over in the MC forum. Everyone's concerned about looking "mature" and "professional" as if it were some kind of universally recognized form of status and respect that one acquires as they age. But is this true today or are you simply expressing your longing for a long past era through your clothing?

As one poster mentioned there is increasingly little difference between what children wear and what adults wear. I agree. This has many negative consequences. But wearing those elderly looking loafers (instead of sneakers) as casual wear is not going to change things. You will however accomplish the task of looking stuffy and out of sync with the times-- as do most posters of casual wear in the MC forum do.

Sure, those things might not be universally meaningful -- it may be the case that, in your job or city, that stuff doesn't exist. But it's also not the case that they universally don't exist, either. In many cities, neighborhoods, social circles, job environments, or whatever, it still means something to be dressed up.

This is an old thread. What I took away from it is: It's not possible to be 'too old for sneakers,' as many people of all ages wear them. But sneakers are about being sporty and casual, and if you're not that kind of person, then there are lots of alternatives.

It depends really on what I'm wearing that day, but yes sneakers are comfortable too. But I also have loafers because they're just quite classy for me to match with either denim or slacks, I think.

haha, way to resurrect, I think sneakers work in one's 40s, especially during this pandemic, just don't make them look like orthopedic shoes. now it's back to a little sleeker. personally, i go with sandals a lot during this pandemic, since I'm WFH.
