Live today as a poor person (I'll allow you to define poor)

or

Live 500 years ago as a person of great power (King of England, Pope, etc.), however you will have perfect knowledge of everything that is missing from your life that is currently available in the year 2011 (e.g. antibiotics, television, internet, etc.). So basically you could think of it as taking yourself as you are today and traveling back in time 500 years, but with no way to get back to the present.

Had this discussion with a few people at work and found the responses to be pretty interesting.

I'd want to be a man of great power 500 years ago, if it's anything like the various HBO series' lead me to believe, I'd be able to lay around all day drinking, and *******. Oh wait, that's what poor people these days do anyway.

Obviously King.

Imagine having the opportunity to advance science and socio economics 500 years ago based on today's knowledge.

Eh, there's a lot that they're not missing too.

Nobody that I've posed this question to (including myself) has thought about it from the perspective that you just did. People always come at the question from a lifestyle perspective and never from a social impact perspective.

That said, I'm still taking the life of the poor person. I place a lot of value on ibuprofen.

I dont know... I really like the present. I think I'd stay.

I would choose the king if I didn't know about the present

Rambo, he said "person" so in order to make that mayan god thing work (at least in your head) you're going to need about 400mcg of LCD mixed in that chocolate

I've heard that LCD is a hell of a drug.

It depends....

Having armies of women for conquest and men for bloodsport is nice...

But a person today has comforts a Renaissance duke could only dream of. Ice water (during the summer) was an unheard of luxury back in the day, for example.

King though...my my my my my
