Belt spoiling the look of untucked shirts

Mostly, the only time I wear my shirts untucked is when wearing a polo, but this may apply to woven shirts as well, though I usually wear those tucked.

I find that the belt spoils the look of the shirt as the belt and buckle creates a bulge through the shirt. This happens even with fairly low profile buckles like D-ring belts.

I have now stopped wearing belts when wearing polo and shorts; and may do so with jeans as well. But not wearing a belt does let the pants sag a bit.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I think the solution would be to get tab adjusters, which would be impossible to find RTW. Maybe next year I'll have my shorts custom made this way.

Yes, I wear shorts when it's hot outside, which it often is where I live. You can complain about shorts in a separate thread. In any case, the problem happens with jeans and pants too.

A good solution might be tucking in. It sounds like your shirts are slim enough for it to look good.

Suspenders, worn under the shirt, would solve your problem.

I have the same problem, although I think mine may be mote gut related. I'm by no means fat, but I could stand to be a little fitter, and the belt showing under an untucked polo teend to accentuate that area. Sans belt, I look a little fitter. Wearing higher rises also helps with that.

I feel the same way. I hate wearing a belt if my shirt is untucked as I don't like the raise on the waistline.

A decent tailor can remove belt loops and sew in side adjusters.

Another vote for the "wears shirt too tight" explanation. (But admittedly, I often find so-called "trim fit" clothing to be ridiculously too small. To each his own, eh?)

But why not post a photo of yourself, showing the bulge caused by your D-ring belt? Maybe the unsightly bulge exists mostly in your own mind, and to an impartial outside observer there's no problem. Maybe the problem's with your pants. Maybe it's a weird D-ring belt. Maybe whatever. It's gonna take pictures to figure this one out.

I agree. I never wear a belt with jeans or other casual pants (khaki cargos, etc...) but the jeans are fitted and don't sag at all.

I am not jumping whole hog on the 'shirt too tight' bandwagen, but I am going to suggest if you have had them made/chosen them so they fit quite tightly around the waist, perhaps fitted when you didn't have trousers and a belt on, then I imagine that might be the root of the problem.

I am sure the slim cut shirts I have that I tuck in would not look right over a belt, the shirts I wear untucked are a bit looser at the waist.

Shirts far too tight I would suggest.

I don't necessarily think the shirts are too tight...I think the problem is more with the D-ring belt. I have noticed this a few times if I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a D-ring belt. The rings on the belt don't quite sit flat enough, and sometimes I can see it poking through my t-shirt. Not egregiously, and it doesn't really bother me that much, but I have noticed it from time to time.
