Gaziano & Girling Appreciation & Shoe Appreciation Thread (including reviews, purchases, pictures, etc...) - Page 888

Is it standard for Gaziano & Girling shoes to have non-reinforced eyelets? On the pairs I have they're just holes punched through the leather. On my Allen Edmonds even though the eyelets are blind (can't see them from the outside) on the back it's reinforced with a metal eyelet.

What makes you think they're not reinforced? A metal eyelet isn't the only way to reinforce. In fact, it may be a poor way when you consider that laces will eventually wear a hole in the metal which, in turn, will cut and tear the laces apart.

And replacing the eyelet is an awkward business that can chew the hole up even before a replacement can be mounted.

Most high end shoes have an extra layer of leather between the facings and the linings. This works pretty well, being as strong or stronger than the metal, is aesthetically pleasing, and doesn't risk tiny round burn marks on your feet during an electrical storm. lol8[1].gif.

Just received confirmation from Nick that my first pair of G&G are done, exactly three months after order date as promised.  Looking forward to it!

Nothing terribly interesting, I'm afraid - Oxford in black on the MH71.

The plain black captoe has been a glaring hole in my shoe rotation and the G&Gs are really the only ones that have ever appealed to me.

Why oh why is nobody interested in Blue Oakhams?  Dammit...might have to get the black ones.

I empathize with you. Just go it alone, and get it the way you want...

Gets to be expensive that way.  I love that I'm spending north of a grand on shoes and yet worried about a couple hundred extra.

I agree, I think this forum has reached the saturation level. I enjoy proposing various GMTO but nowadays that seems to be impossible. You might want to check Bonafe shoes as they only require 3 orders for GMTO.

Saturation level? Not quite yet. There's still orange, yellow, violet, and purple shoes for the trend setters to complete rainbow colors. Red, green, and blues are so 2013.

I'm actually surprised we have not seen more GMTOs for G&G recently. That Burnham in F was almost a go... It was kind of a GMTO frenzy over at the Edward Green thread though, earlier this year. We had Zugglets, Nevis CCs, two or three Dovers, Shannons and might be some project I forgot about. Might be people are "saturated" as you say. Or maybe just recovering. smile.gif

I am always in the sidelines on GMTO because of my width needs, but I think once people saw the up charge for the Burnham, it might have been enough to hesitate.

For my part, I will admit I was not too excited about potentially having another dark oak/vintage oak shoe. Maybe full saturation also comes with developing ones unique tastes and needs. Which adds to the difficulty of these GMTOs...

Worked the Wiked Wigmores back to the rotation:

I think "recovering" is the right term, there have been a at least several EG GMTO and just in time I might add.
In addition I think majority on this forum has obtained all those shoe staples we need and right now members are looking for something unique and it is difficult to get 5 people to agree on the same makeup.
I am actually surprised that Bonafe does not generate more GMTO action since the price is reasonable and you only need 3 order to avoid that pesky MTO fee.

Leaves I really appreciate your willingness to set up and announce pre-orders to the forum members. It is a nice perk to have.

How close were you? I haven't signed up yet but I definitely would once I figure out if I like 6F or 6.5E better.

Nice, twinsies. I just got my 6.5E Wigmores today. Tried them on for a second and they fit really well with no heel slip and have a V which is more than I can say for the Hoves oddly enough. Don't know if it's the TG73 vs MH71, the closed/open lacing, or the fact that the Hove only has 4 eyelets.
