from my first hand experience, i would rate them "higher" than the eg & gg i have handled personally.

Funny as almost every EG sho I've seen I liked but there are hardly any G&G shoes that I drooled over save for the antiqued wingtips on sale at the Armoury and bespoke items.

I dont think that supplier's name is very reliable to tell the quality: they have good and bad leather which they will all sell but to different customers (I dont say SC has bad leather, just saying Porsche and Ford have a lot of suppliers in common, it does not mean the quality is the same).

I don't notice any appreciable difference in materials nor construction, but I find EG more subdued and under-the-radar while G&G more of a magnet which draws the eye. G&G MTO runs GBP 100 less dear, but nothing comes free of course; today ordered the Cambridge in cedar suede on the MH71 (lower left) from Nick, and was quoted FIVE MONTHS TO DELIVERY. Phuck!

this shoe looks way more tan on their site.
a bit confused about what the vintage chestnut actually looks like.
it appears almost cherry here.

I dont know the name of any leather supplier of tannery, I am talking about the exact same leathers they had in their swatches; I actually only recognized only one of them by the stamp of the company (a Milanese makers Suede swatch).

Having the same samples does not mean they get the same quality, does it?

Vintage Cedar is what I'd say. They look exactly like the Woburn I'm currently looking at on my feet. But then it can be very difficult indeed to take pictures which are true to the actual colour.

Trini,

I am IMHO a novice in comparison to some of the folk here who have been buying fine footwear for decades and in some cases generations.

I speak to most of the Northampton makers frequently, been to the factories several times, know the people who actually make the product etc

My experience has been gained over some years not decades, I'm still learning and find the experiences and insights of others here interesting - not always accurate, but very interesting....
