What in HELL is doing this to my collars?

So recently my shirt collars have been getting this winkled look, but not a wrinkle you can iron-out. Like it's in the fibers of the shirt itself. It was almost entirely my Klein shirts and I thought the fabric was just crappy, but now my fav. J. Crew shirt is starting to show signs and I'm wondering how to stop it before it gets worse. I've thought recently that it might be the dryer in my apartment/maybe I'm drying them too hot, as I do it on the hot setting. Not sure why it would though. Anyone seen this happen? My initial thought is that perhaps your collars are fused and the interlining is mishapen. Likely to happen with cheaper shirts. Pictures would really help.

You all inspired me to get my computer to stop ******** the bed. One system restore later and I can post images. Hope this helps.

A fused collar would be glued as opposed to stitched, right? Not sure about the placement but it looks like the bottom at least is stitched.

Still cannot really tell what I'm seeing in the picture besides something funky happening. Is the collar developing bubbles and vein-like creases? I got those with my old high school shirts when I threw them in the washing machine and tumble dried. They were fused collars of course.

I haven't had any problems with any of my shirt collars in recent years, now that I hand wash them all, air dry them and iron them after every wash.

Yeah, wrinkle isn't quite the right word, but I like "vein-like creases." It's sort of just damaging the fabric it seems like, but only in that region.

I am pretty sure it's the dryer... Sadly I don't have a great way around using it in my apartment. I might be able to just air-dry them, but kudos to you for hand-washing all your shirts, that seems wild to me.

The high heat from the dryer has shrunk the thread sewn around the collar, causing it to shrink and pucker the fabric.

Air dry your shirts. Problem solved. Your shirts will last longer too.

Looks like the collar has 2 issues both caused by running the dryer on hot. Seam pucker and the interface/fusing is ruined from the heat as well. The seams usually happen right away, the fusing will take a bit longer to show up. Run the dryer on air dry, then hang dry/iron them.

another possibility is that shirt is not 100% cotton. perhaps some synthetic in there? if put in dryer, that might result.
