December vacation in Munich - Page 2

When I spent some time in Munich in late March I thought often of how this would be most absolutely perfect place to take your children to during the Christmas holidays. They also have a toy museum there as well. It's got to be magical during Christmas!

We stayed at the Flemings Hotel, which had a great included breakfast and was right next to the train station and a two minute walk from the city center. Yes, many areas around the main train station in cities all around the world are pretty seedy in nature, but not Munich.

For instance, there is a special price for trips to Austria, so if you book at least 3 days in advance you should be able to get a cheaper ticket for your trip to Salzburg. The ICE trains are the fastest and the most comfortable.

Buying your tickets well in advance (weeks) with Deutschebahn drops prices dramatically in many cases.

Again, thanks for the advice. We were a bit surprised by train ticket prices, to be honest. It's one of the reasons we ditched another overnight trip we were planning (plus, not doing that makes the whole trip a little more relaxing).

We are going to book the Neueschwanstein trip through a tour company. The price for the tour (including entry to the castle) is much cheaper than we would pay going on our own. (I think the Salzburg trip may be the same, but I can't remember.)

And it looks like we may have run across a nice apartment to rent. One of the good looking ones we enquired about that turned out to be booked, has another new apt available. That sentence doesn't make much sense--the owner has new apartment now available that may work out very well. It's near the Theresienwiesen.

you can get the so called bayern ticket for 28€ and travel one day with up to 5 people all trought bavaria. No highspeed trains tough. But trains are usually rather cheap if you book long in advance.
