The S550, CL550, CLS550 and CLS63 all need MB Designo interiors. Without Designo, the interiors look and feel cheap. The Designo option adds full leather that is of a significantly higher quality than what is found in the base models. The base models also use MB Tex on the dash and some other surfaces, but not with Designo.

I think it's ridiculous that they nickel and dime full leather at that price point.

Exactly! If I recall the bottom half of the dash and other bits of my friends CL63 is not covered in leather... At that price I want to know a field of cows was murdered and half a forest leveled.
