I don't think SSKs are worth the trouble for BMWs. I have a UUC Evo3 in my E46, and not only is it a PITA to install, but it doesn't suit the character of the car, and occasionally buzzes. The Porsche factory SSK (or the B&M --- they were the same for a while) is worth it, and should be standard on their cars. But nothing will touch the stock shifter in a Miata.

I've swapped in shorter, lighter ZHP shift knobs on my E46 3-series, my Z4 roadster and my current M Coupe; I've never felt the need to go beyond that.

I was at Buttonwillow Raceway this weekend for a BMW CCA driving school, and found out that the limp mode problem happens on a lot of BMWs, even E9x M3s! In the middle of a run, on a moderately warm day (95F), the iDrive screen in an E92 M3 suddenly popped up a message that warned that the car was going to overheat. The oil temps were nearly 300F --- that is beyond safe. It turns out the M5 and M6 V10s will overheat and limp also, and apparently even faster.

Combine this with today's official confirmation of a turbocharged next-gen M5, and we have

^^ That's a fairly cool Bimmer, would love to take that on as a project but have no ******* time. Good luck selling it, sure it won't take long.

Hmm, yeah, the first M Coupe I ever saw was up on the Gold Coast area in CT, it was Interlagos, and I thought "what. is. that?" Had a hard time even finding out, they are such rare birds.

I was looking for Interlagos over Light Sepang with the Madeira, but only two, I think, were made with that combo. This one is the LSepang/Carbon, which I like, vs. the aluminum, which I don't particularly like.

What, has the M division rolled over or something? I am unclear on this a little.

Thanks for the tip on the wheels.

What else have you looked at? I'm considering a vehicle in this category for my wife this fall and have just started gathering information.

My new whip. Yeah, it's as boring as possible. But I own it outright and bought it without a dime from my parents. So I feel pretty good. 2007 Chevy Cobalt LS (four-door). I am secretly ashamed that I don't own something WASPy.
