As in insult, a prom is filled with ill fitting rented cheap tuxedos, and most look horrible.

Unless the cashier was very young in an old navy or something

its an insult

Was the cashier pretty? Marry her quick! She's interested.

Based on the fact that you're outside next to a parking garage, I would guess that it is not a mirror in front of you that reflected your image to the iphone camera you are holding....I know, irrelevant, but I am curious why you are holding up that phone.

But to answer your question, if I were dressed like that and someone said "you look like you're dressed up for prom", I'd probably say "You're absolutely correct. I do look like that."
because you do. I mean, the only thing that makes this 1 step short of the ultimate prom outfit is if you were rocking a black shirt with a red tie or something awful like that.

edit: since I started replying, I took a close look at the photo again and decided that it is not necessarily the outfit itself that is doing your overall look injustice, but the culprits are in this order from worst offender to less offensive...

1. the flower
2. the super faux hawk
3. the chops
4. the goatee
5. the iphone with the cover from hot topic

If you had a more conservative overall look with everything hair related on your dome, that whole outfit would work better.

of course you're asking for criticism by posting your photo so I mean no disrespect. you're probably a nice guy.

Your hair is a little...out there...much like that of the adolescents at a prom. The first thing I thought of was this:

Thanks. Was planning on getting hair cut soon, clearly more urgent than I'd thought lol. I like adding a flower, first time I'd used carnations though, will have to see if it was the type of flower or just one thing too many. Thanks for the advice.

Flower is OK.

Pocket square is OK.

But not both.

Unless, of course, you're going to the prom.

Did not know this.

Is it a rule of style that you never use both a pocket square and flower at the same time?

If you are going to wear a carnation, pull it through the buttonhole properly to avoid the "corsage" effect.

How do you put it through properly?

Pull the green bud in the back through the lapel hole so that only the actual bloom shows and faces forward. Mini-carnations are great for this because the size of the bud holds it in place and there is no need for a stem-holder on the back of the lapel.
