They don't get a lot of love on here but I like the ones I've picked up on deep discount ($30-40). Nice material and they hold up very well. The cut is not very slim, though.

What he said. If you want a slim fit, you will have to get them tailored, but not bad for what the price (on deep discount) is.

I like the Peruvian-made ones I've bought, but they get exponentially larger as the neck size increases, and are at least half an inch bigger than the labelled size. I normally wear a 15.5 or 15.75, but size 15 fits me perfectly, and is quite slim at 22 inches across the chest and a higher armhole than you'd expect. They have a new slim-fit range, but I know nothing about it.

Ive bought a couple from Last Call for around $50 and I like them pretty well. If I found a fabric that I really liked, I probably wouldnt hesitate paying full price ($125?). The fit seems to bounce around a bit though (some blowsy some trim). I also have had a similar experience with the collar sizing mentioned above so try it on before you buy it.

The quality varies widely, in my experience. I've got four from Last Call, two of which are still among my favorites and two of which I hardly ever wear. Pay special attention to the collars: on the ones I don't wear anymore, the collars look extremely cheap and cardboardy. They're so bad I'm actually embarrassed to wear them.

Agreed - I just picked one up that is labeled their "Tailored fit for Neiman Marcus" and it is much slimmer than their usual line. It also has a label denoting it as an official Sea Island cotton shirt with the seal of approval from the West Indies SIC co. The fabric is absolutely incredible.

the label looks like this

IKE
BEHAR
^this is boxed
new york
^written under the box

its square and is black. is that a diffusion line or?

also.........

they are $20 a piece, so i was thinking if i get like 5 and spend $100 there, drive down to the local place that advertises tailoring $50 for 2 shirts (get the polo ralph lauren blue label one i have taken in too) then i can have a set of nice shirts

then set aside the cheaper BCBG, DKNY and kenneth cole shirts for casual days/beaters.

All the shirts I described above have this label. The bad ones are actually worse than BCBG, Kenneth Cole, and DKNY in my opinion. The good ones, though, are far better. Check out each individual shirt before buying--don't just assume they're all the same b/c they all have the same label.

$20 would be a great price for the good ones, even including the added cost of tailoring.

okay so besides checking out the collar, the stiching, see if all the button holes and buttons are lined up properly

and ignore the tent like fit since its going to be modified anyway

what else do i look for?

Avoid the ones made in China or Indonesia, they're not good. Here's a size chart:
