Anybody else see Obama meeting the troops in Afghanistan yesterday?

He was wearing a really good-looking dark brown bomber. Only problem was his black pants and black shoes. Otherwise a solid look.

Anyone else remember the stonewash dad jeans he wore throwing out the first pitch at the 09 all star game?

It's not an anomaly, it's a lifestyle...

Yeah, he completely lost it. Maybe Michelle's horrible influence.

I don't care for Obama but he is good at cultivating an image of 'change'

I would assume his dad jeans, over sized everything and white sneakers are calculated - remember how much flak Michelle got for the Lanvin's?

This isn't the 90's with power suits, affairs and cigars anymore.

The younger Obama photos reminds me of the young vs. old Steve Jobs photos posted in the MC forum last year. Jobs used to wear dandy looking clothing that fit well, while today he wears nothing but dad jeans.

I think it has to do with the strong attitudes pushed by the baby boom generation. For this generation, wearing jeans to work was almost viewed as a kind of rebellion. Overtime suits and ties increasingly gave way to jeans and other casual clothing in the workplace. Ultimately being able to wear jeans to work (or to anywhere else you please) was considered a sign of "success" by boomers.

But ironically the dad jeans have become a kind of sad uniform of the baby boom generation that is more about conformity than anything else. Obama is really just dressing like most everyone else his age today.

2nd great depression, alot of tough talk on 'the rich' etc is going to fall badly if he is seen to live in such a way.

Also its pretty obvious he wants to appear as 'common' as possible.
