Narrow Arm Sleeves - Alterations Recommendations

Hey,

So I'm going to go to a tailor and request for the sleeves of my suit jacket narrowed. Sure I've been to tailors to get my jacket sleeves shortened and waist taken in, but never have I gone in to ask for the sleeves to be narrowed. What particular request should I make? How narrow should the sleeves be? Are there some guidelines I should give to the tailor? And can this be done easily by a tailor?

How much does such a request costs? I'm afraid that this is more difficult and work to be done by the tailor that the tailor might make some b.s. saying it can't be done. And suggestions would be helpful.

I am not sure if this can be done easily since it will also mean having to reduce the arm scye / armhole ?

I think it just involves tapering the sleeves so no alterations to the armhole are required. Would like to hear members thoughts on how to go about it though - what directions to give to the tailor and how much to narrow arm sleeves. Thanks.

I actually just had my tailor narrow the armholes on my overcoat last week. I was basically asking her the different things she was able to and she was basically like she can pretty much do whatever I am interested in having done. So I asked her if she could make the armholes narrower and she just pinned them up to my liking and made it happen. I was certain to make sure that she understood that I didn't want the armholes tapered but made narrower throughout, which is exactly what she did. She did a terrific job and I am definitely impressed with the results.

Interesting - I was always led to believe that armhole reducing was a pretty hefty task that involved considerable recutting of the garment. But then again, I'm not a tailor, so I shan't profess to be an expert on these things. Perhaps tailors out there should weigh in on this.

And JR Rider, care to post a few snaps to let us see how the operation turned out?

Thanks. Do you know how much a job costs? The latest GQ issue is saying narrowing of the sleeves should cost approximately $18. Which I think is a bit too generous on the pricing. Thanks.
