Your waist must be covered. Period. This means either a cummerbund or a vest.
I've seen Bond wear neither. as in

Bond is also an Englishman wearing Brioni.

Also, I think if you look that good, it doesn't matter anymore.

are there different black tie rules in England? mostly I disagree with the tone of blog, which is very authoritarian about subjective things. he attempts to write the all encompassing truth when there is none.

I realize this. It really meant to be more snarky than harsh. And I also realize there is no all encompassing truth - I am trying to teach generally accepted "classic rules" to guys that need to know them. I have had dozens of friends specifically request this over the past few years, so now I am finally trying to deliver.

This is a work in progress, however, and there's no reason not to course-correct. I appreciate your opinions and hope to use them to improve the blog.

I agree with your attitude, a bright cream tie can be acceptable. But the wearer must know his audience and coordinate with the rest of his outfit.

Giving "classic rules" at least provides a framework to know what he or she is departing from.

Regardless, I've subscribed to the RSS feed. Please focus on critiquing others akin "pre-tied bow ties are for clowns and liberals", and leave the basic rules for other blogs.

This is DC. Some political snark will find its way in, surely. Hopefully I can keep a healthy does of both that and the rules...

This is my favorite line in the whole thing.
Get a real black bow-tie – the kind that you need to tie yourself. Pre-tied bow-ties are for clowns and liberals
BTW I agree.

I agree with most of it, but the tone is nasty. I honestly wouldnt visit that blog seeking advice.

How dare you? May your wool shine around the elbows, knees and seat!
