If this is 'dressing as a blood sport', this poor guy is on the losing end. While the suit is wonderful, everything else is paired in a pedestrian manner. The solid shirt and tie combo doesn't work, as the individual items (save the square) are tonally too close. The garish watch and cute socks aren't helping either.

I'll also never figure out what drives successfull grown men to strike affected poses for photographs that they can send into an online blog.

The picture and comment bring to mind a fundamental question that Edward Sexton once asked me, "When you get up in the morning and get dressed, who do you get dressed for?"

The choices for answers are for yourself, women, or for other men.

The picture tells me this guy only dresses for himself. He is also a mix of Dandy and Man About Town.

Regarding monochromatic scheme, the last the Rake issue [with the Kiton chairman on the cover] had a good article about how the monochromatic schema can be timeless [e.g., Gregory Peck's inconic Gray Flannel Suit].

I have to disagree. I think his choice of pairings is spot on and I quite like the shirt/tie combo and it's tonal similarity in this color scheme. I alos think the touch of pink socks is nice with the lighter gray. As for his pose, that's a different story, but I guess it's more "visually" interesting than the robopose.

also I think it's a blue shirt with a contrast collar, my preference would be for a solid blue shirt and a brown wool/cash/grenadine tie but I think the suit/shoe combo is lovely.

The individual components of his look are far stronger than the sum. Like ET, I don't like the consolidated presentation - tonally too similar, and the incremental items (watch, socks etc.) annoy me.

Not a fan.

The dove gray flannel is from Smith Woolens and the double breasted suit was made by Leonard Logsdail
