Is this correct about NYC?

Downtown is where Wall Street is?
Midtown is where the Empire State Building is?
Uptown is where Central Park is and the Upper East Side?

If I am wrong, please correct me.

Does Time Square fall into the Midtown category?

yes

Uptown is a relative term. I consider Uptown to be above 96th street on the East Side and above 110th on the West. Therefore, Uptown is above Upper East/West side (Or morningside heights) in my opinion.

yep - these terms mean different things to different people. Downtown can mean below 14, below Houston or Wall St depending on who you ask. Midtown is pretty straightforward - usually between high 20s and high 50s. Uptown can mean upper west/east or harlem, depending on who you ask.

My wife and I just squabbled about exactly where downtown starts - I think of it as everything south of 14th, she thinks of it as Wall Street.

I grew up there, so I'm right

You're biased and therefore her opinion is more worthy.

I've never heard uptown referring to above UES and UWS. Depends on your circles I suppose.

Not much in Downtown except Goldman HQ
Wall St is a sham for TV cameras and clueless viewers: nearly all the trading occurs over computer networks
Midtown is where major hedge funds and private equity shops are based (the richest guys in town)
Not sure who the hell has offices in POS bldgs like EmpireState
UES (60-85 along 5th and Park) and 15 CPW are where people live by choice
Edible grub is at Daniel, Per Se and LeBernardin

Not sure what else of relevance is in the little town; nearly everything that matters is within about 25 blks of 9 W57

People who live there (above the 90s) often call it uptown - it's a relative term. By the same token, people who have always lived below 23rd or below 14th tend to use "downtown" for the areas below Tribeca - makes sense as a relative term. Now, I know people who've lived and work all their live above 42nd street - they call "downtown" anything Chelsea and below...
