Let me just say something about RL: most peeps here know that I love RL items. But I [mainly] stick to Polo for a reason. Many of the RLPL items can be (seemingly) found as branded Polo but priced cheaper. For instance, I have a pink candy-striped shirt with a contrast collar (and self barrel cuffs) labeled as Polo and see the same shirt labeled as RLPL (with Frech cuffs) for much more. The flannel 3-piece RLPL suit I bought, that fit OK, I sold because I found a suit branded Polo in the same cloth in the Polo I cut for a song NWT. Incidentally in that pic I'm wearing the pink candy striped shirt.
True there are some items exclusive to both brands. True, there are some items labeled Polo which are just crap. The key is to identify where they are made. Polo made in Italy? Score. Malaysia? Maybe not. We all know RLPL stuff to be made either in Italy or some Euro country so we automatically assign worth to it.
But if you stick to Polo and know what to look for, there are many gems to be had. This is why 90% of my wardrobe is carefully picked Polo items. I have a few RLPL shirts (Keaton) and ties and such, but the go-to for me is Polo. The good stuff. Capisco?

Just to corroborate this:
I have a nice cashmere tie with purple label fabric content /country of origin tag, and a Polo Keeper.
