Hello everyone,

Recently I see an absolute raise of shoplifters in my store (Armani Jeans Rotterdam).
I was wondering... Do you guys have any idea's how I can prevent my store from being a target?

Greetings,

Vincent

Make an appointment with a security firm such as Group 4 Securicor, have visible cameras, hang a few LCD screens with the camera image near the entrance so people can see they're being watched.

I would also check on employees. I used to be part of a retail company and we did have problem with pilferages from within the group.

Employees actually steal more than outsiders.

We have security around prime time and we got camera's but I just want to be less attractive to be a target. Just because I sell stylish clothes shouldn't be a reason to be a target all the time, isn't it?

Keep an eye on the employees, at the clothing store I work at someone was fired for letting their friends steal. Just last week a group of women came in and tried to steal 1800 worth of clothes, the big concern now is that majority of shoplifters come in groups now.

Well, I don't want to be a jerk... But Armani Jeans, in Rotterdam... You're bound to attract a certain kind of 'customer'...

Much like the stores that sell Moncler in Holland almost setting themselves up for burglary, shoplifting and other unwanted attention from certain groups of people.

These are both good advice. I worked in retail loss prevention for a few years, and these were approaches we used. We also used "dummy domes," which were black camera domes that didn't actually contain a camera. They were much cheaper than cameras, but people had no clue they were empty. They deterred theft by making people think they were being watched.

It also helps to have someone in a uniform by the front door, even if that person is completely powerless.

The whole point is create the illusion of surveillance.

That said, some level of shrinkage by theft is pretty much inevitable.

Was going to say the same thing as Roy.

I sympathiaze, but am not surprised. Doubly so if you are in the Lijnbaan

I lived there for a while, and let's say that I am not surprised that the OP is having shoplifting problems.

I know that doesnt tell you much, but...

I've read that most theft is from employees who steal themselves or allow friends to steal. A lot of profit also goes out the door from abuse of employee discounts.

I'm pretty sure my employee's are clean... And the thing about Rotterdam...
Well, it's just hard to fix that... I'll try the LED screens.

Last week I caught 2 boys by myself who tried to steal, they're just 14 years old!?

Where is the world going to?

when it is seen as accepted by society to steal music, movies and software, why should there be a problem with shoplifting honestly? the chance of getting caught will always make the idea of stealing in person less common, but at thsi point the moral issue is dead, if you can get away with stealing, good for you. just look at this forum, there is a thread at least every month on the best software to use to download or soemoem asking how torrents work, steaing is no longer morally wrong.
