Dear all,

Due to the pointless 'worth the money?' threads posted beyond number on these fora, we all know that 'justification' is an entirely unquantifiable and individual concept. This is exactly why I want to hear your opinions on whether I should pull the trigger on a bespoke dinner jacket.

Due to a couple of groups I am now mixing with I will be wearing a DJ at least 25 times a year. I have always considered the Henry Poole design to be the best proportioned and most tasteful jacket that I have seen, and have had little success in finding a RTW model that comes close.

While I cannot afford Henry Poole prices, I am considering having my off-row tailor copy this design as faithfully as possible. What are peoples' thoughts on this? Does it seem wise, given the circumstances? What would you do? Otherwise, has anybody seen anything OTR that might interest me?

Many thanks

Charles

I showed the exact same picture to my tailor when I had a tuxedo made though mine ended up having more conventional peak lapels (though I like the Poole lapels more, it would have been difficult to have them recreate).

IMHO the Poole piece pictured is the most elegant piece of clothing I have ever come across.

Anyone can make a one button peak lapelled jacket. It may or may not look like the Poole.

To faithfully copy something, you need to supply the original to your tailor.

Not saying his won't be great, but it may not be what you are looking for.

Without one in hand to copy ... you will need to articulate with as much precision as possible what it is you like about the Poole.

It's a damn fine jacket.

If you're going to wear it 25 times a year you might want to consider more than one; maybe in a different style for diversity.

If I had a need to wear a dinner jacket 25 times a year I'd have a few made...especially if I'd be hanging out with the same crowd.
