It's a shame, because I liked the idea of supporting Canadian business.

Does anyone have experience with Kanuk? (Not sure if I asked this already as I don't recall receiving any kind of input.) I was out with my brother helping him exchange Christmas gifts and happened to drive by a local retailer. It's piqued an interest in me. Kind of a more mature alternative without the flattering cuts of the fashion-foward brands, but they appear to be well insulated without any ghastly branding.

From a SF 'Kanuk' search...

"Quebecois are very fond of the home grown coat company called Kanuk. They are very warm and IMHO overpriced. They are manufactured right in the Plateau and have sales a couple times a year"

Took a quick look at their website. Having people who look like high school principle's model your coats is an interesting choice. Also those photos look like something someone would post on Flickr or Facebook, not to model clothing. Also confused if the coats come with fur or you can add it if it doesn't? Hopefully some already do. Lastly, can't say I see a model I like but maybe you can narrow it down. If you are going to spend that much you might as well try the Gormley.

I was thinking world wide not just NA, as there is a massive price difference from the us prices to the rest of the world.
I bought my chiliwack via Weaver and Devore 8 years ago, at that time with shipping via Arizona to Denmark it was still less than half the price 313$ vs. 785$.

Yeah, I agree. I think a fair price for a CG parka is at most $500 and for a bomber $400. But with their popularity these days, its just gotten ridiculous price wise (and might actually get worse).

You can find just as nice parkas that are just as warm too from other brands at cheaper prices. It just gets dicey finding something under $450 if you insist on real fur on your hood.

You got one before they became mainstream. Now to find the next big thing - though that might be harder with all these new designers charging starting prices that are even more expensive than CG. Living in Toronto, I don't mind spending a bit more on a jacket that'll keep me warm and will last.
I wonder what the price cap will be fore CG jackets. They keep raising prices, but people are willing to pay those exorbitant prices.

I think Nobis, Moose Knuckles, CMFR, etc, should be thanking CG that they can ask that much for their coats. It's great for those companies, and sucks for us the consumer.

The reality is that if you want a men's parka with real fur, your choices are limited. And right now, all those choices are way overpriced at retail IMO.

Well, when CG hits the same price points, maybe people will start choosing the less-popular brands. I think prices will level off around the $800 level, which is pretty ridiculous.

When the market prices level off, the major selling point of CG will be their history of quality products.

Apparently there are a couple of places in Montreal that stock the Gormley, so I am going to hopefully try one on this week and then report back. Regardless of the fact I now need a winter coat, I'm still hesitant to drop that kind of coin. If there was a way to get that 25% discount someone mentioned, I'd do it in a second.

Please don't drop retail for it. (Unless you really, really, really want it.) Looking forward to your impressions of it.

oh and nobis and moose knuckle jackets are digusting

I don't really like this season's Nobis jackets either, although I was contemplating the Yatesy jacket for a bit. In the end, I got a CG Manitoba because it was on sale.

I hope some of you guys pick up CMFR jackets, they're really well made and worth the money I'd say.

It's such a beautiful and functional jacket, and probably is worth every penny. However, that doesn't make you feel any better come time to bust out the plastic.

Try one on in store and I'm sure you'll buy it on the spot. ;)

What is it about the nobis that you don't like, me personally would choose the cartel over a chilliwack anyday. I like the fact that they have a removable fur which makes it easier for it to be washed. Also the armpit vents can come very handy especially to those that sweat easily. Although I do have to admit the holes on the wrist can be a bit annoying sometimes but other than that everything is perfectly fine IMHO.

I don't mind the simpler models of Nobis jackets. It's just the flashier ones. I was and still am considering a Yatesy because I'm looking for a longer parka.

I recently got a CG Manitoba and a CG Constable. I think they're too big for me. I'm 5'10, 170 lbs. Thoughts?

The hole in the wrist-cuff is embarrassing. But the coats are quite nice in person.

Neither look big to me. The Manitoba is a big puffy jacket. The Constable has a regular fit. You can better determine if the fit is right simply by the way the coat feels on your body and how much your arms can move, etc. Perhaps you simply want a slimmer fitting coat.

Yatesy from what I know is a super warm coat but also very expensive.
