Just bought my Win 7 Home Premium upgrade preorder for $50. Going to be using it on my Media Center. (In October) Booyah!

It's a sweet deal. I'd jump on it but I need 3 copies, and I only have 1 legit copy of windows installed (the vista that came on my laptop), so I will be buying a 3-pack.

Its still cheaper to buy 3 now (the max allowed) than to buy three later if you can swing the skrilla.

I've been using the RC for a while now on my laptop. So far, there's nothing in it that's making me want to upgrade from Vista. I'm sure I will eventually change my mind as this is fairly standard with OS upgrades although I am aware that Win 7 is getting massive amounts of positive reviews/praise. It's just that my hardware is current enough to run Vista great and I don't have any crashes. The new taskbar/start menu don't do anything for me. Quite frankly the feature I am most happy about is the docking of windows by moving them to the top or sides of the screen and I believe there is an application that can add this functionality to XP/Vista.

I likely will not be upgrading my newer computer (as it also runs Vista flawlessly). The upgrade is for my old Win XP single core Athlon media center. There is definitely a benefit there.

Win 7 RC runs beautifully on my Wind U100 (upgraded to 2gb of ram). It runs even faster than XP was. I rarely have to overclock it, XP I would all the time.

Not surprising, Win 7 is much more streamlined than 2000/XP/Vista

Aren't you supposed to have 4gb ram+ to run Win 7 if you plan on playing games? I'm considering upgrading if it will actually increase performance noticeably, but I only have 2GB in here at the moment so it might not fly.

I haven't heard anything about that. I HAVE heard that it will run spankingly fast on a netbook with 1gb of RAM. Update: Firing Squad didn't have any problems with the BETA running gaming benchmarks on either 2GB mid-level system or a 3 GB "high-end" system. (haha!) Some of the numbers are still a little low in certain tests, but its a friggin BETA. (and not low enough to be considered unusable) There aren't even customized drivers for it yet like there are for Vista. http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...g_performance/

WAIT A MINUTE! Are you guys saying Microsoft might actually get something right without four years of patches?

NO, I'm not saying that at all. Hell, even OSX hasn't done that. (But when OSX patches or fixes something, they release a new version and make you buy it again)

What I am saying is that where Windows 7 is in BETA is already a better product than OSX, Vista, or anything else I've seen so far. And for two more days you can get 70-100 bucks off it. I'm always about saving.

Just ordered a new system (from Dell) so I get Win7 for free.

I need to buy full versions and there's no deal on the full version. I'm only eligible for 1 upgrade. I would probably cheat if I knew the upgrade copy would work on a fresh install, but I'm guessing they have some kind of protection against that, and I'm past the age where I feel like screwing around with my OS.

Well ok. But with the Vista upgrade, it was reeaaaallly easy to bypass the product verification. Which is why people were able to go "back" to XP instead of having their XP license become a Vista only license.

How easy? When it prompted you for the XP CD key, you pressed enter without putting anything in, it asked whether you were sure you wanted to continue with the install, and you pressed enter again. And it installed it.

From everything I hear, its highly likely that this is going to be the same install program. It will require a fresh install, not an overlay, but the upgrade CD will do that.

quick question....if I upgrade my OS from Vista to Win7, is it as easy as just installing Win7 or do i need to go thru extra steps for a "clean" install where there is no Vista on the hard drive anymore?
