I was eating at Peter Luger's a few weeks ago. One person in my party wanted his steak well-done, when the server brought it out he muttered "and this could have been an excellent steak" and set it in front of him. I almost died with laughter.

I could punch people like that..

Why having a great steak and cremating it?

One friend of my in laws was pissed off because a cook in Paris refused to burn her steak...

I promise myself to go and shake his hand next time I'm back.

What is he doing now? Work for Heinz?

I hope so. I helped him land a nice position with another organization, a position that would have led to a nice six figure income, but he got into a scuffle with HR and then fell off the face of the Earth. I should have known given his ketchup comment that he would not live up to my expectations.

I will admit that I am a bit fuddy-duddy and I like shampoos and body washes and hair products. I like to try new things a lot too. Once in a while I will go to a company's website and read customer reviews of their products and sometimes even watch youtube video reviews of products. There is something that I have noticed that I just don't get. 99% of these reviews are written by girls, or are videos of female reviewers on youtube. All of these girls talk most of the time about how a product smells and how it makes them feel. 0.5% of the content is devoted to what it actually does, or anything about the claims of the product. Girls are so strange. I feel like you can sell them something revolting if you could engineer it to smell nice.

I had a similar experience with a crappy chef. I was at Mortons and asked for my steak Medium and the imbeciles brought it out Blue Rare. I sent it back and they served it to me Rare.

Never again am I going back to that ****** steakhouse.

My neighbor worked for mortons doing some corporate job for 30 years. He now works for fedex doing some corporate job. I wonder if Bill Sayers had anything to do with it.

Because there is no reason for a car to be at the top of the tach at 65 MPH, and being at the top of the tach makes those mufflers, which are already loud at lower RPM, sound like a crotch rocket. Basically, what I believe Gib is saying, is that those cars don't need to be spooled up to cruise at 65, which means the driver is intentionally riding high in the tach in a lower (numerically) gear just to show off his "cool" loud-ass muffler. Thus, the already-annoying sound is made far more annoying than it should be at the speed Gib used in his example.

Also you can usually predict driving behavior by engine sound. If someone sounds like they're in the process of accelerating rapidly but is actually cruising with traffic, it's very confusing and creates annoying dissonance even once you've recognized what's going on. Even worse when you're expecting one type of vehicle with a certain behavior and both end up being wrong.

On a similar vein, one of my neighbors has some mid-00s Lexus with a modded muffler. Except, his is going the other way, sounds like some huge truck. I don't know why you'd want your Lexus to sound like a F-350 diesel but apparently this guy does.

Come to think of it, I did send corporate a very strongly worded letter of concern.

As a side, recently went to Del Friscos in Vegas and it is a far cry from the one in NY in regards to quality and presentation.

My mother-in-law was cooking a prime rib for Christmas last year. She pulled it out to check after about the right amount of time, observed "Oh, it's still pink, it needs to go back in."

I died a little inside, and my palate died when I had to eat it.

specific NYC centric food item I don't get:

Black and White cookies

1000

^the cookies can actually look really tasty, but the actual taste and texture is puzzling.

for those whom have never eaten one: its basically a half cake/cookie thing that has "vanilla" and "chocolate" frosting on it.... the bad part is that the chocolate or vanilla frosting is indistinguishable in taste. so basically you're eating a flat harder cupcake.

you can see tourists' reaction of puzzlement and disappointment while they bite into and start chewing a black and white cookie trying to figure out what the hell they paid $3-$5 for.... sadly they should've just bought a cupcake.
