In college I really wanted to major in either, Literature, Philosophy, or Music. I ended up majoring in Finance. I find that funny.

Same here. I wanted to be a Philosophy professor at one time. When the head of that department spoke with me on this desire he asked me how I felt towards a life of semi-poverty. The rest is history.

I bought a pound of coffee today and paid with a cc via a square gizmo. Moments later, I received an email receipt.

I've never given the coffee shop my email address.
Nor Square.
Did my cc company sell them my address?

This kind of thing pisses me off.

Hahaha! I had a similar experience when trying to decide between a PhD in English or a law degree. All of my English professors strongly suggested that a PhD in English wasn't the greatest idea.

Of course, if this were happening now a law degree might be just as inadvisable.

I use a Square card reader in my practice. When I run a client's card the e-mail address is often just there as an available option for receipts. It does censor the first part of the e-mail address so I couldn't grab it if I wanted to. Usually it will say "d*********@gmail.com" or something similar so I can ask the client if that's the right e-mail address.

Really? I didn't ask for a receipt. The receipt was sent by Square who, in conjunction with the coffee vendor, has now signed me up for a frequent buyer's club.

**** you, Square and **** you, AmEx for letting them know my email and buying habits.

I'm in an argument with somebody on facebook (not my friend, this is on somebody else's page, thank god) who is seriously claiming that the Confederacy was justified because, while slavery was unfortunate, their economy would have collapsed without it, so slavery had to stick around as a practical necessity.

I'm not going to copy the whole thing here, but holy crap- I thought we had at least gotten past that particular bit. Seriously, is America still not at the point where we can at least agree that slavery was indefensible?

So many idiots out there...I had somebody yesterday seriously claiming that Obama was disbarred (which I didn't know was a thing) in disgrace before becoming president.

At least with the moronic birther thing, they were looking for a document that wasn't something you could just look up online.

You will never get everyone to agree on anything. There are people who still think the earth is flat.

Ah. That would suck. It sounds like Square has other "customer loyalty" programs for bigger vendors (not some podunk lawyer like me).

Thanks for leaving me out of your FU list, though. :fistbump:

Square does rule though. Mrs. Piob and a girl friend have a little hobby retail business and they use Square.

I have a philosophy degree and a police admin degree. I debated whether to pursue my philosophical musings and was berated by many well known philosophers for not pursuing knowledge and instead pursing money or what otherwise believed known to be as a law degree.

I chose law....but regret those nights of reading and analyzing Heidegger, Sartre, the Plato Kierkegaard, and the Nietzsche in trying to figure out what was north and what wasn't.

I very rarely encourage my students to pursue graduate degrees in philosophy, even when they tell me that's what they are interested in doing. I always give them "the talk" (no, not that talk). And I certainly would not criticize my students for taking into account their future financial well being.

BTW, I am not really in the field of Grace Studies, of which I lied about above, but rather I am in the field of philosophy (not lying this time).

That's only because you want to keep that sweet, sweet philosophy money to yourself.
