Silk vs. cotton Pocket Square?

Some writers, such as Roetzel, speak only of cotton or linen pocket squares for formalwear? How do you feel about a silk pocket square with a tuxedo, instead of a cotton or linen? Tie silk, of course.

Silk and linen are equally appropriate. Cotton is slightly less so as it is not quite as crisp as linen, but really, who will notice? It's like saying cotton socks are less formal than silk or wool.

I will never wear a cotton pocket square. It's like putting a piece of shirt in your pocket. Perverse and wrong.

I prefer cotton for very formal occasions.

Would you never don a linen shirt?

Just silk? I seem to recall you saying that you basically use two. Perhaps you said that you have one in cream and one patterned?

Interesting though that you would never wear the "TV fold." I must admit that I have become less fond of it once GQ advocated it.

I feel the same about wool suits. Wool is for sweaters!

IMO, white silk for a tuxedo.

I like colorful cotton and linen PS for spring and summer jackets and suits. I especially like a colorful cotton and linen PS with a khaki, tan, beige or "cement" colored suit on a hot summer day. But with a navy linen suit my favorite is white linen.

I alwasy use silk, I think it looks a lot nicer along side the details of the tux jacket and tie.

Are you referring to cotton pocket squares in all circumstances or just for formal and semi-formal wear? In the latter case I'd probably go along with you. Rejecting cotton squares altogether though seems a bit silly--I have quite a few I like, especially for more casual ensembles.
