Why is 'raw' denim better than a pair of normal jeans I can get at Macys?

i don't know if raw is always better. i guess it just depends on what your desired effect is from the jeans.

Some one wash jeans fade better than raw, though this isn't always true.

but really the purpose ofa pair of jeans is to keep you from being naked... beyond that its all details.

A lot of the jeans at Macys feel weird, fit poorly, and have colorful designs on their back pockets that I am not cool enough to pull off.

years ago i used to wear diesel jeans....now when i look at them, i think their washes/distressing looks awful

compared to the natural wear people put on their jeans in forums like SF and SUFU

So generally the Raw/Dry jean is for people who prefer a more natural distressing as opposed to a wash which is already done? Is this the general consensus?

Or I do it for both. Get a new pair that has that shiny, deep indigo and break it in and you get a nice natural fade, buy a new one and do it again.

i like the bold colour of the raw, and the sheen that comes off them when hit by light

it's also a plus that most good quality raw are selvedge

In all likelihood they have been washed. Aside from STF and select styles in the higher end "LVC", "Capital E" and "Red" lines, most if not all Levi's are washed in some manner.
