Are these old Brooks Brothers shoes made by Edward Green? If so were the ones made for Brooks Brothers of lesser quality?

Eh, pretty sure. They are old Brooks English shoes with the size 41 and width letter C on the sole.

Pre-C&J for Peal AFAIK.

^ What they said. I had an identical pair, down to the same model(different size though). Nice shoes.

It's by an unknown English maker, NOT Edward Green.

So therefore it's a complete piece of crap and therefore you should throw it out or donate it to the poor.

Item:
Brooks English shoes were made generally by Church's IIRC. They were sort of a more reasonably-priced alternative to the Peals.

Item:
Japanese shoe collector centipede has pictures of vintage EG models from a trip to EG's former shop in Burlington Arcade. They include shoes made under other names, including one Brook's English. This is surprising and should not be taken to mean that EG made many Brooks English shoes.

Item:
I thought most Church's shoes were stitched aloft. These appear to have channelled soles with fancy wheeling on them.

Conclusion:
It is difficult to tell who made these shoes. Probably not EG, maybe Church's.
