Um - so I am a pretty junior member so I am just trying to learn the rules of behaviour a little here - all of the members that I dealt with so far were awesome but this one puzzled me a little - did I mess up? I want to apologize to the member Kane if I did.

Here's our conversation:

Kane's last response:

Yep. There is harm in asking repeatedly for a discount and/or additional perks. You've just soured the deal. Cheers m*therfucker.

Anyways, $105 shipping to Calgary sounds good to me. If you could send me an invoice to [email protected] with the item description that would be fantastic.

Just to check, the shipping includes tracking right?

Thanks and cheers,

Thanks,

Kane.

Are you thinking of lowering price on the item by any chance?

Thanks

It's CAD$10.54 shipping, cost to me, then a couple dollars for packing and then GST PST brings it over CAD$15.

That brings the grand total to USD$105 for the hoody if you're still interested, shipped to you in Calgary.

If you'd like to proceed, please send a PayPal to [email protected]

Please include your shipping address. Thanks!

K.

It may be me and my drinking problem but I'd say you might want to format that a little better because at first glance, I have no idea WTF is going on.

I dont think you messed up. I dont see any harm if you ask if the price could be lowered. It puts no obligation on the seller to do so, on account that you were merely inquiring. However, I base my conclusion on the assumption of a veracious depiction of the conversation. If the wording and context were not altered in any way, IMO you did nothing wrong. I don think the seller should have been such a sour puss.

Personally, I think making an offer once is ok, but only if you'd actually buy it at that price. So many people make offers and then flake off and never respond or don't buy the item.

Thanks for your opinion guys. I didn't know he worked for W+H - newbie mistake I guess.

I don't want to have any bad blood over this though - but was a bit surprised at the sharp response. Oh well. Gotta be more careful I guess.

I think you should have accepted what he said about not liking to haggle and left it at that, questioning his understanding of the forum with "I think bargianing is quite normal, prices are flexible" and assuming the right to be annoying "there's no harm in asking is there?" is not good business practice, your politeness and supposed maturity is just icing on the turd, doesn't change what you meant.

Well I'd say your bigger mistake was taking such a trivial matter and starting a new thread and posting your Private Message conversation with the obvious intent of affecting another member's reputation. Cute touch that you "apologize" to him in advance. You're a putz.

Could be. I took it to be the old "playing dumb and pretending not to know what the **** I am doing in order to makes someone else look like ****" trick.

It'll be interesting to see how many people defend Kane's actions as opposed to a random seller.

You asked for a discount on what may seem like an exorbitant shipping price, he says okay fine, time goes by and you send him another message since the sweatshirt hasn't been sold yet wondering if he was thinking of dropping the price (a smart move since I guess no one was biting), he says no and wishes to sell it at the original price he offered, you agree to buy it at that price but wonder if you made a mistake trying to get a better deal, the deal is called off and profanities are tossed at you.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. I wonder how many times the people who are or may say that you're annoying have actually sold things over in the market because I've seen much worse. You sent him three messages over what looks like a period of time; I've received more from people asking me measurements, price haggling, shipping questions, where the package is, if I could mark down for customs, where the package is and why they haven't got it yet (how the hell would I know?), and finally thanking me when they finally receive the package. THAT is annoying but welcome to the market.

TL;DR is no, I think you acted just fine Kane just got upset and took his ball and went home which is fine - it's his sweatshirt to sell. This thread isn't necessary though just get over it.

And lol at Xenox with 'assuming the right to be annoying'. Get a clue.
