    Anyone read the Baroque Cycle?

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Stephenson's novels. Cryptonomicon was my favourite.

    rocking the ascot

I'm not certain I understand the age arguments. IMHO the most important factor is how they are worn. They can be subtle and sophisticated or, in some cases, billowing, garrish and "costume." A hint of silk to fill the open collar of your shirt is all that is needed. My first ascot was given me...

    Wearing an Ascot

Since our offices are increasingly business casual, on days I don't wear a tie I wear an ascot. I can't quite bring myself to wear an empty open colar. It's also de riguer for weekends and casual events. I see a few around our club and have a few friends who wear ascots or scarves...

Just ordered a Burberry trench in 34 Short :)

By the way, for less formal country outerwear, Barbour has quite a few items in 34 or XS and will do some alterations.

Just ordered a Burberry trench in 34 Short :)

A couple years ago I was pleasantly surprised and found one of their trench coats in 34S at the Manchester Center outlet store. Needless to say I was thrilled and bought it immediately.

    CEGO shirts...

I found Carl in 1986 by word of mouth. Two acquaitances, not know to one another each suggested I contact Carl before I started at First Boston. No matter how many other tailors / shirtmakers I visit, I always return to Carl. I have been quite happy with his shirts and his service. I also...

    Tailored Clothing Widely Considered Gay

Hmmm... You seem to have described the mainstays of my wardrobe, and I am currently shopping for another pair of brown suede bals... How ever will I break it to my girlfriend? More than six years together an me gay that whole time! Had I known this earlier in life I might have saved myself...

    CEGO shirts...

I highly recommend Carl's shirts. I have been a customer since my first internship with (what was) the First Boston Corporation in 1986. Even after I moved from New York Carl has been terrific about sending plenty of swatches that I really like, and I've stopped in from time to time when home...

Laundry vs. Dry Clean for RLPL Corduroy

Looking for advice on cleaning RLPL corduroys. I have had mixed experiences with dry cleaning garments that start life soft and subtle and wind up less so after even one trip to the dry cleaner. My old cords used to go in to the gentle cycle to be washed, and dried with low heat. All of the...

    36R to a 36S

Before buying bespoke clothig I had good luck with MTM from Ralph Lauren. If you wait for his Trunk Shows (I hope this is still the case) not only was their no surcharge, but the jackets and suits were sold at a discount. I am quite short and thin, but they had a 35S pattern that they cut and...

anyone have recipes to make use of authentic balsamic vinegar?

Another simple and wonderful use of aged true balsamic vinegar is to drizzle it over a very good quality parmesan cheese. Several other cheeses work well, but this is my favourite combination.

    Neckerchief?

You can actually use any large square scarf, folded on the angle and then folded/rolled until it is two or three inches wide. Hermes has a good booklet on tying scarves and the below image shows many ways in which neck cloths were tied.

Anybody tried silk shirts for business wear?

For silk shirts or silk underwear, the comfort and practicality depend entirely on the type / weave of the silk. IMHO Wintersilks silk v-neck undershirts are quite good and come in two weights, but I do not like their under shorts. There is a Canadian company called Staples that sells a woven...

    Bourbon Anyone?

Makers Mark is good but I find it a bit sweet sometimes. Knob Creek is my go to bourbon, but if just sipping a glass Bookers is my poison.

    I have issues with writing.

I have to admit that I have issues with my own handwriting. In elementary school I won three penmanship awards and studied calligraphy, something I have done on and off through the years. However, as time went on and I was dragged kicking and screaming in to the full time work force, my...
