But still full enough to differentiate ROs from everything else :bigstar:

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

It's even more sad when people think every steel watch with an integrated bracelet is automatically an AP clone

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Back to watches - Has anyone ever heard of a gray dealer or AD who is willing to heavily discount an unpopular PM Panerai? Specifically, the 42mm Goldtech Panerai Due. I'm thinking of picking one up as well but I refuse to pay anything near retail. Edit: By heavy I mean 40-50% off MSRP. If...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Equally sweet. We are comparing gold dress watches with gold dress watches. Not gold dress watch v SS Rolex/RO or whatever. That was the underlying premise to start with - why would you buy a gold dress JLC (Master series) that has no unique design language, as opposed to a gold Breguet...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Bundle A gives you 2 apples for $3. Bundle B gives you 2 juicier apples for $3. Which is better value?

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

It seems to me that you are the one who has completely missed the simple point I was making all this while, which is that when 2 watches are sold at a very similar price point, and one has hand finishing/haute horology touches and the other doesnt, then the former is better value. That's it...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I never knew I would have to explain the merits of hand finishing over machine finishing in an enthusiast forum, but this thread has been full of surprises

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

As I said mere minutes ago, I wouldn't be surprised if someone now comes up to defend machine finishing as being better or more valuable than hand finishing, and here we are.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

If two watches are the same (or very close price), and one has hand finishing and the other does not, the one with hand finishing is better value. This is not subjective, and should be completely obvious. But then again, after the last few pages I wouldn't be surprised if someone now jumps out...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Even after so many pages on the topic, it seems that people still deliberately (or worse, unknowingly) make false comparisons between Rolexes and dress Journe/Pateks etc when the (simple) point is that gold dress JLCs are terrible value for money when compared against what you can get for the...

    John Lobb Appreciation Thread

DISCLAIMER: I do not own any JLs as of now, just seen/handled them in person. IMO, yes. The prestige is significantly better overall, from leather to make. However, I think both the classic and prestige lines are very overpriced at MSRP and a significant part of that goes towards the JL name. I...
