This reminds me of something. In the '60s and '70s in Shanghai, you could get Repin paintings--the large ones-- for very cheap.

The people knew who Repin was, but in the midst of the Cultural Revolution nobody was buying that sort of thing.

SoCal,

I clicked the first link, looked at 2 and 4 and was like "why buy this?!" The first one was a white solid background with a couple pitchfork looking objects on it. However, the oily water was a bit more discernable.

They are power lines.
You really can't see the super faint details that are partially washed out in the exposure in the tiny pic online.

Ah, okay. Even on my 19" it was too small to make anything out.

Norway still has a national "Salon" of sorts. It opened Friday; heres a couple of the ones I liked (the vice theme is purely coincidental, I swear):

When I become benevolent dictator of the world, I'm going to put School of Athens in one of my palace's ballrooms. In all seriousness, seeing this IRL was one of the most awe-inspiring moments of my short life. Actually, the entire Vatican museum left me stunned.

I'm debating between #2 and #4.

These by Sonja Thomson are great because when you see themin person they look 3-D as if the bubbles in the oil/water were actually protruding from the surface of the photo.

The Trans look like they could be interesting, but they don't come over that well on the internet (at least for me).

The Jesus paintings with the eyes that follow you around the room are pretty cool.
