I like swimming alot and on an average swim 15km a week during the past year. I recently noticed that my body is not proportional. My waist is small compare to my shoulder. All those swimming has increase the size of my upper body.

Is there any excercise that i can do to increase my waist?

Eat a half dozen glazed donuts with a quart of whole milk every night before bed.

Seriously - weighted side bends and abdominal crunches can increase the girth of your waist but not by much.

BTW, don't most men want a tapered torso?

I like the one pint arm curl, repeat a hundred times a night or so, you'll fill it out in no time.

Time (age) will cure your problem, as will eating/drinking more (esp. drinking).

You can try abs and lower back exercises to strengthen your "core muscles". Pilates is good for that, maybe yoga too.

Agreed. That's always what I've been told, creates the torso triangle and what not that everyone busts their ass to get.

I dont really want a triangle shaped torso. My ideal body is a square shaped. The small waist makes me look "curvious".

Go on an antidepressant! I was a 30 inch waist up until about 5 years ago. On the pills I ballooned to a 36". I have been off the meds 2 years now and down to 33" no other changes.

But seriously, when I was trying to slim down my brother, a fitness trainer, cautioned me that too much ab work cna actually grow the waist with built up muscle.

Dead lifts and ab work. Work your lower back and abs and you can put on some muscle that will increase your waist size (at least that's what I'm telling myself). Though why you *dislike* your V-shaped torso is a mystery to me....

I know I dislike it sometimes because it's harder to find shirts that fit correctly

Chicken fired steaks with backed potatoes and peach cobbler with ice cream works for me!

Enjoy your small waist while you have it. You'll "pudge out" in just a few short years and will be looking for vertical stripes and tossing out your double vented jackets (they make your butt look larger!).

Gawd! It's a shame youth is wasted on the young!

you guys are nuts thinking its possible.

there simply not enough major muscles in the waist to increase the size while keeping lean.
only solution is to get fat.

Even arnold schwarzenegger had a measly 34" waist
(keep in mind, he was a HUGE dude 6'2 with a 57" chest)

now compare that to yourself...

You have swimmers shoulders... you're kind of stuck with it.... or you could quit swimming and over the years you'll see some balance.

That being said. You cannot actually fix the problem. If you have narrow hips, you have narrow hips.... it is what it is.

There is a solution..... Kinda...

All you can do is focus on developing your core, I saw a few people mention some good exercises that can help. Also depending on how your body currently looks you can create the illusion you desire. You'll have to figure out what works for you based on your current situation. You may want to work on your upper middle back, also focus on your lats, developing them to be wider and tapering down or a more square look to your lats.

If you want the tapered look then focus on doing close grip pull downs and bent over close grip barbell rows.

If you want a square look focus on wide grip pull downs and wide grips rows of any type.

This fix will not come fast.... 6 months or more of hard focus on these areas.

Hope that helps.

Good Luck
