Chino alterations, did I get ripped off?

I dropped four pairs of chinos off to have the waist taken in ~1-2" and my tailor charged me $140 for all four . I always seemed to think $20 was about average or am I just getting old?

It depends... Were they very low-rise? If yes, then he may have done you a favor by taking them in from the sides instead of the rear seam. However, this operation takes more skill and work, so it costs more. Always ask beforehand about the price.

Alterations were done at the rear seem for 3, sides for 1. I usually do ask for price first, but was in a rush when I dropped them off and forgot. Serves me right I guess.

Best tailors charge 45 for the side seam alterations. So, you over-payed.
