Is it me or is the CJ Handgrade 337 last not a very elegant last? Look at the picture in the link below showing the insole. The shape of the shoe viewed from that angle looks fat and round. Whereas an elegant last should have a more contoured/skinny shape around the foot arch area--not round like a barrel on the 337.

Do you guys agree that the Lowndes on the 348 last is generally a more elegant looking last?

it's you.

the 348, in a few years, will be considered "clowny" because it's so pointy.

ferchrisssake, get what you prefer. Why do you think they offer different shoes?

imo the elegance of the 337 is better appreciated when worn and when seen worn, ie on the foot, with clothes, and at a few feet of distance. not in macro megapixel jpg files.

Those look way too tight for you. The shoes are bulging out around the laces area. do you have a particularly high instep or do you have very wide feet?

The 337 was by far the best fitting C&J last for me, I'm still considering the Belgrave in suede no thanks to NOBD

I will admit, however, the last isn't the sleekest by far. For Polo:

Although I like the 337 last I prefer the 348.

It needs to be put in perspective: the 337 last is 10 years old, meaning it was conceived before the trend of ultra-pointy toes. So our eyes have gotten accustomed to longer, less round lasts and therefore the 337 looks a more traditional, but I would not qualify it as inelegant. I am wearing my dark brown Tavistock 1 today, and they still look very OK by any standard.

True, C&J have recognized the need to update this last a bit, and we got the 350, which I think are a good balance between traditional and modern. I don't think they'll look out of style in 10 years.

I would not say the same about the 351, which I think is too pointy to stand the test of time well.

Both, unfortunately... But despite the gap, they are comfortable (and beautiful), so I chose to live with it.
