Which San Mateo store? The original one they opened in the 40s or the newer one that opened in the 90s where Danko used to cook... I know you're not that old.

I've found the San Mateo one has one of the best alcohol selections of a supermarket in the area, and of the sister stores in Los Altos and Meno Park. Plus they sell foie at $45/pound, unlike Andronico's which folded to wingnut pressure and has stopped selling foie.

I didn't know they did foie by the pound. Golden Gate meats does, and they are a lot closer to me. I think Draegers used to sell it only by the lobe (or half liver). I mean, obviously, the 90s SM store. The wine section is great, as good as anything in the area, but the meat and groceries got a bit too supermarkety for me as compared to how the MP store was before.

There is also a Draeger's in Danville.

Beijing has a rather large Fauchon, which I went to for bread when I lived there.

Yep, I've had them slice the frozen foie to a requested weight.

Ah, I've only stopped by recently mostly to look at the wine/liquor or cheese, mostly because I have found lots of their items are available at Safeway.

Haven't been in a while but Lafayette Gourmet was top notch. I loved stopping by the cheese counter for lunch.

Not exactly in Paris but close. It actually is by far the biggest wholesale marketplace for produce and fresh food on a national level. A very good illustration of just how centralized of a country France is - sometimes fish will be fished in Britanny and end up on a plate in Normandy, via Rungis.

True, it's technically in one of the southern most suburbs (called Rungis I think).

WAY too expensive. You can get most of the same stuff elsewhere for less. But their bakery is quite good. Seafood is much weaker than WF or Dirk's or issacson and stern Meat is better at Gepperths, and just as good at WF Dry goods are better at Treasure Island and WF
