Could be it. Here is an Italian auction with a pair: Link

Here is the sole from the pair on Amazon... Very similar.

The only similarity I can see is the nail pattern on the heel. Other than than...

However, definitely sounds plausible. It's a good strategy for RL to find an under-the-radar factory that can produce high quality work such as this one- the shoes look great IRL. By the same token, I believe that RL was one of the first makers to use Caruso to make their high end suits (Black Label). Now Caruso is popping up across many labels, and is a highly sought after producer of tailored clothing.

Out sourced shoes are made per the buyer's standards. The can be RLPL quality or Payless quality. Tricker makes $200+ shoes under one label and they also make shoes for Thom Browne. Alfred Sargent makes $200+ shoes and they also make shoes for Gaziano & Girling .

You're right about Tricker's, but I believe G&G simply used the AS premises but their own workers to make shoes. I use the past tense because I gather that they've moved out.

Where has G&G moved to?

Reviving a old thread, so actually it has nothing to do with made in Italy RLPL, picked up a pair of "Silvano Sassettie made for Bergdorf Goodman" (says on the insole) last week at a huge discount. Since I am not a shoe expert, can someone weight in as to construction quality (retail for 750ish, got it at 240ish). I am guessing it's Goodyear Welt since

1. It said goodyear on the bottom
2. I can feel the stiching inside

the color is dark oak, and the style is austerity brogue with medallion toe. The leather looks quite decent, and so far it has been good (after 3 wears only, so can't say much as to how long it will last).

P.S. only mentioned here since the poster seems to now that RLPL made in Italy is by the same manufacture, not sure if it's the same quality as made in Italy RLPL though.
