"давай за" by Lube is a really famous Russian song. For me and a many other people who speak the language it is one of their faivourite songs not only because of the words but it is incredibly catchy and well performed.

Can you guys listen to it and tell me what it sounds like when you don't understand the words? Is it like watching Bollywood music videos? Lame? Still good?

Thanks.

+1 on the name.

But it sounds like a mediocre alternative/folk song. Nothing mindblowing, kinda lame. Keep in mind I do find some foreign music enjoyable (Serge Gainsbourg, Kazemachi Roman for instance) so its not strictly a language thing.

I am a White Russian...and also bi-lingual ( or is tri-?). The song belongs to the BARD genre, for sure. That means that one has to know Russian + Russian history + be in the know about what's going on over there to have a chance to really appreciate it.

Any band named Lube is okay in my book.

Song itself is alright - not as cheese as other European music I have heard (my parents listen to Eastern European eighties hits, so I know all about that). Doesn't really jump out at me. It's not Dragostea din Tei.

I kind of like it. I assume "Davai Za" means "a toast to..."?
