for example, San Diego is paradise but good luck starting a finance career there...

if one is starting a "career," one should target a career, not a location. most careers are only possible in a limited number of locations.

Assume you work for someone where they have over 30 offices in the US, so most major cities are covered.

Certainly no where in Connecticut, though New Haven is improving. I like Baltimore.
