Vegas Restaurants

I would like some recommendations on some good Vegas restaurants. I've been to Vegas plenty of times, and have enjoyed just about every meal. I'll be going there in early Feb. on business. I would like a good steak house recommendation..I'm a rib eye fan. Any other must do's? Thanks in advance.

Vegas has such a large number of quality restaurants. Some new places for steak that get good reviews are Cut, Carnevino, and Charlie Palmer (plus some others). Some fantastic other places are Joel Robuchon (one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at), Guy Savoy, Alex, and Picasso. Sadly, they are all very expensive but you really can't go wrong with any of them.

For sure Robuchon, Savoy, Trotter, then try Olives as well. A good rib eye you can make yourself. Live a little, there's a lot more to food than a steak.

+1 on the Savoy. Probably the best meal of my life.

Every city has a good steak house. Go for something harder to find.

I think if you went to Robuchon and Savoy, you'd easily have two of the best meals of your life. They are militant about quality and you'll get something very similar to what you'd eat in Paris.

There is a Bouchon there. I have never been, but I love the one in Yountville.

We went for a breakfast there. Very nice. I'll try and hit it for a dinner next time. My wife ordered a scallop dish (for breakfast! Vegas, what a place) and she said they were some of the best scallops she's ever eaten. Huge, U10 I'd say, perfectly carmelized outside, soft and tender inside.

Do they still have Le Cirque in Vegas?

I think they have three or four different shows running. It's like they own the town.

Another place, if you like high end seafood and a very cool setting, is Aqua Knox. Get the private seating in the wine room. Vaulted ceiling, glass walls, which are also a water fall. Was pretty innovative and mood setting. Then just totter over to the lounge across the way, the V Bar.

Le Cirque was still there this past summer. I dined there a couple of years ago and the food was okay but definitely a few steps below the others mentioned above. I did not like the service we received there either. My wife was promised a replacement course for one of her courses that had something she was allergic to and they never brought it out. When we mentioned it they said nothing could be done because their kitchen is closing??!! Did not offer us a choice of desserts and just brought out some without ever asking what we would like. I can't remember the last time I was treated like that at a high dining establishment.

I agree that the quality of Robuchon and Savoy is unsurpassed. They were the two most expensive meals in my life and worth it. I do think Robuchon is in a class by itself. I would even give it a nod above Per Se and French Laundry. The scene is surreal, right outside the doors are rows of nickel and quarter slot machines and you enter into some other world that seems miles removed from the casino. It was strange but I think it definitely made for quite an experience. The environment inside is just breathtaking. Savoy is great albeit a little sterile and rigid but I am just nit picking at this level.

I think Alex offers (relatively speaking of course) a bargain in this category at a level of quality close to Savoy. Picasso is another level below that but is still a great restaurant and lower price range.

Some other places that may be to your liking are Cafe Boulud, Micheal Mina, all the restaurants at the Wynn.

Bouchon is great for a casual meal and the food is very good but it is nothing spectacular. Do not equate it with Thomas Keller's other places.

Oh, a tip someone here gave me, is Rosemary's. Sunday night, prix fixe dinner, and 50% off bottles of wine. Excellent service, great food, great deal. And FYI, you can get the foie on the prix fixe for a light upcharge.

It's just several miles off the strip, and located in a strip mall. Great QPR experience.
